The flight was to Chiang Mai was completely booked full, so Lisa and I had a young Western girl sitting next to us. She introduced herself as Deloris and it turned out she was Canadian. Not only was she Canadian, but she happened to live just down the street from us in Toronto. Deloris was a massage therapist, recently out of school and traveling before she had a large client list built up. She was spending most of her time in Thailand, taking meditation and massage courses and had lots of ad...
Chiang Mai, Thailand aaronpolarbearMonday 26th April Well today was very interesting, it was our first morning being woke up at 7am with some guy at the Eagle House Guest house banging on our door, I went to the door half dressed to explain we were not being picked up for our trek today until 8.30. I don't think he could understand a half asleep tired English guy saying "later later". Anyway eventually got up at 08.00am and we were picked up at 08.30. This was our one day Trek trip and Elephant riding. We went to some (can't ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand andybeeukSpent our last day in Chiang Mai doing the same old same old, ie mooching round the shops! Gra has bought a 'festival' buy he just could't resist. A bamboo walking stick, that screws together in the middle and was invented by some double barrelled English officer in the British Army at the turn of the century for the Burmese soldiers!! He promises me it will be very useful in Epping Forest. We then left Eagle House and Chiang Mai later in the afternoon on the night train. Luckily this was rel...
Bangkok, Thailand chezgraOn the 23rd July we caught a sleeper train to Chaing Mai. We were pleasantly surprised with or beds for the night, probably because we had to lower bunks opposite eachother (top bunk are small, no window & apparently you roll around more). The train was suppose to take 14 & a half hours but it was delayed by 4 hours so took 18 & a half! When we arrived in Chaing Mai the driver from the hotel we booked saved us from the usual bunch of taxi/tuc tuc drivers. We stayed at Eagle House ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand danlucyBright and early I woke, showered and packed. After checking out, I went to meet the taxi driver I'd arranged for the previous day (no. 3450). Traffic was light so I got to the airport with plenty of time to check in and then relax over coffee and juice. I arrived in Chiang Mai at noon and got a taxi for 120 bahts to Eagle House #2, my lodging. First impressions of the city... Well, I was surprised at how big and busy it was, full of suicidal motorbike commuters and street vendors. Not a vill...
Chiang Mai, Thailand dosqueenI showered and finished packing then headed off to find a decent cup of joe before taking off on my trek. I grabbed a delicious brownie at Hopf Cafe across the road from Eagle House 2. Damn, I can still taste it three days later while writing this! At 9:30 we piled into a pickup truck and headed out of Chiang Mai. In our group are 2 Frenchmen, Patrick and Francis, 2 English girls, Joy and Alex, a Canadian, John, and me, the lone American. Our guides are Chai and Kudee, who hails from one of t...

Chiang Mai, Thailand escapetheraceHello everyone! As you know, we left for the BKK on Tuesday, nearly a week on and we've made it up to Chaing Mai in the North this morning. Here's a quick updat on what we've been up to in between.... To some up Bangkok, it was pretty much shop, beer, pad thai, beer, tuk tuk, beer, temple, beer, sleep, beer, pikey thai rip off merchants, beer, ping pong, beer, fakes, beer...etc We stayed in a place called Mom's in the heavily touristy Khao San Road area which was basic but comfortable. A few ...
Bangkok, Thailand felicitybHi All, Well, its only been a few days since I've last put in an entry, but it feels like absolute ages! We left Bangkok on Wed. evening, heading for Chaing Mai. Got the night train. That was an experience in itself! We were in a carriage with about 30 people, everyone staying in bunk style beds. Was comfy enough, but still didnt sleep.. Am still in the paronoid stage, where I reckon everyone is after my rucksack & mine only, even tho half the carraige had Westerners & backpackers in ...
Chaing Mai, Thailand ginaduffy23 Aug 03 The 686 mile journey north to Chang Mai took over 12 hours, arriving approximately 7:30am. The VIP luxury air conditioned bus wasn't quite as promised by the very helpful Bangkok travel agent...broken seats and a cracked window. However, there was air conditioing and I spent the journey freezing in shorts and a t-shirt. Note for next time...take a jumper (or two)! The bus stopped a mile or so from the town centre and we were advised that the government didn't allow buses in to the t...
