Our comfortable, if a little bumpy sleeper bus arrived at 7.30am, it was 18oC and we were freezing! Its unbelievable how we have adjusted to the heat so quickly. Our guest house was very cheap and the views from the terrace across Lake Pichola were stunning.
Udaipur is a small city surrounded by 3 lakes, its main claim to fame being the Bond movie Octopussy, was filmed there. We spent two nights and three days, relaxing, reading, sleeping and sight seeing around the Udaipur City Palace...
Mon 4th Feb After an eventful journey (involving a missed train. jumpong off a moving train, three buses and lots of scary people) we arrived in Udaipur and it was areal breath of fresh air. It was beautiful and our room had a panoramic view of the lake and the lake palace hotel. We wandered the hilly almost European looking streets and admired the views from many rooftop restaurants. In the evening we went out for a posh (relatively) meal in a great restaurant called "ambrai". It was full of...
Udaipur, India graciekinsToday we awoke all excited about our train trip to Delhi and flight to Kathmandu, but with a feeling of sadness that we would be leaving Udaipur. It was the place we liked the most from our India trip. We started of the day with visiting the City palace and were greeted with the usual set of guides at the entrance vying for our attention and naturally money. Now the people at our hotel had told us that we should have a full tour which would last like 2.5 hours or so, and this would have detai...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India jamadaiaWe arranged for a private car to drive us to Delhi over night, with a 10pm pickup. It was the same guy who had taken us to Chittoragh as arranged through Deep. Spent the afternoon by the pool (Shipla) with turtles and mongoose for company. And later that night we whent to really quite gorgeous restaurant with Laura, with a beautifull view of the lake palace. But man did the puppet show they later had, was well quite frankly on the ****** side. At 10pm we hopped in a taxi to Delhi and the deat...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India jamadaiaThe bus to Udaipur from Jodhpur is a luxury bus. This means it has assigned seats above which are metal boxes that are called sleeper berths but look like ideal for cattle transportation. The best thing about this bus is it's horn. Imagine all slotmachines in a vegas casino spinning a mega jackpot at the very same time. The sound it would produce played through an amplifier is what comes closest to the horn our driver uses enthusiastically every 10 seconds or so. It is impossible to hear your...
Udaipur, India raquel_chielHi all Just to let you know we are safe! Landed Saturday morning in Mumbai, to then be greeted by the wonders of transport! Hour and half taxi ride to our hotel left us with white knuckles and deaf ears. Horns are definitely the most common noise in India! I believe it literally means "move, i'm behind you!", and markings on the road don't mean a thing, 3 lanes marked means, lets make it 5 lanes and all beep at each other! Mumbai was......scary! For our first city it was very different, but s...
Udaipur, India skip22... followed one of my fellow travellers who had bought the audio guide (250R)... for about 15 minutes, then realized he would be going way too slow for me - it was a museum after all! So I walked ahead. I saw most of it, but I was also aware that I had no plans for our free time afternoon, and I really wanted to shop but really no one in the group would want to do the same. Indira said that she would be hanging around outside for an hour, and I wanted to see if she ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybar... It was kind of like the Blue Bayou Restaurant at Disneyland, next to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, but much better. The temperature was perfect, we could see night birds and bats skimming bugs out of the air, the night skies were clear, the food was great, and best of all, they had live musicians playing Indian music. It was the first time in our trip that we had heard any, and I was starting to get frustrated that the only thing we ever heard ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India randfamily... reclining one of the girls infront. I at least had a reclining seat but when the man next to me decided that my shoulder was the most comfortable place to sleep i put it up ... ugh...... possibly the least fun experience ever. MUMBAI We arrived in Mumbai around 11 and went sraight to our hotel where i left Jess to sleep. The main purpose of our return was to see the Family friend Patrick (and to buy mum some silk) so off i went to the silk shop to buy some ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India melimeli... rather nice. However, it became apparent as silence fell onto the room that Mukeesh sought payment for the necklace and the one Hannah had chosen as well. How much did they want for it I asked? "550 rupees" Mukeesh's wife responded. My jaw dropped. The air in the room became tense, as the silence that greeted her response smacked of disbelief and disapproval. I was appalled that the cheap bit of plastic I wore around my neck would ever ...
