Today was one of those days that make you appreciate the ease of travel around Europe compared to the distances we travel in Australia.

This morning our day started with breakfast in Germany followed by lunch in the Netherlands, afternoon tea in France and dinner in Belgium! The time it takes us to drive from Proserpine to Rockhampton we drove through 4 different countries!

... where I work, and then we went on a beer tour (Bruges Zot is the beer) at the only beer brewery left in Brugge. After that we ate dinner outside at a cute little place across from the brewery; they had torches lit and little red blankets you could use because it was cold. I had him try some traditional Belgian food: Stoofvlees. It's like a beef stew where the beef is cooked in beer and it is SO good. It's also served with Belgian fries and ...

... no time was lost between one element of the operation and the next. We were on our way to Zeebrugge.

The new Captain is a very different character to the last one. This guy is about 6’4" and very, very quiet. Apart from acknowledging each other at the breakfast table yesterday, we haven’t spoken. So it was with a might of trepidation that I asked him at breakfast this morning if he would allow me on the bridge whilst leaving. I ...
