... well preserved Baroque churches and buildings such as the Archbishop's Palace and Lyceum which now houses a university. It happened to be graduation day, so it wad packed with black caped students and their families all dressed up for the celebrations.

We spent a bit of time in Ersekkert, Eger's relaxing park with a pretty central fountain and your typical kids playing, lovers canoodling, dogs chasing balls and people going for a stroll. Not far from the park in the courtyard ...

Headed South into Hungary, on the back roads, the rain has stopped, the roads are good and with very little traffic I've had a fun day. Bimbled along at around 60 mph just taking in the sites. Temperature in the high 20's so all good. Managed to get 390 miles out of a tank so I must be taking is slow!!

... I swiped a parking bus, losing the side-view mirror in the process. Leaving me with 4 weeks of dodging the local authorities as we endeavour to complete our holiday without replacing it. Once arriving in Eger, our hotel proved a challenge to locate, tucked away in the cobblestone streets. ... We walked through the streets that were open towards the Turkish minaret, which is extremely skinny and tall, with 96 steps up to a lookout platform. I climbed up there last time I was in Eger about 20 years ago, so we skipped it this time- the spiral staircase is just wide enough for one person so groups have to go up and down in shifts. We wandered back through the local market, then popped into the Minorite church on the main square which was quite ornate on the inside. ...

... tasting room that could accommodate bigger groups. Along with our tasting, we had a snack of local bread spread with duck fat, sprinkled with salt and paprika and a side of sliced onions.
