... stayed below my uvula all day) and sailed into the subway (learning, on the way, that a red box in the top right hand corner of the machine means 'No Change'). At Bagou station we had our first moment of 'omigodwherearewe', but no sooner were we out the door, then a taxi whisked us off into the traffic. This is the point where we showed him the Chinese for "West Gate of the Summer Palace" and he brought us to the South Gate, took our money and vanished in the ...

Beijing, China taozi... nothing and each day they are walking hours to get to the Wall to sell a few drinks to earn some money for living' and than I thought I'm awful to look at those people like they were vultures... that's the way of living for them and if I can help maybe I should... and so I bought an overpriced iced water (bottle of water that is kept in the freezer over night I suppose and than brought like that to the Wall). But back to the wall... In most of ...
Beijing, China kosciap... to get on and off. So, this woman gets on and sits diagonally across from me. I am casually listening to my iPod and staring into space when I realize that she's breastfeeding. In the middle of a crowded subway car. Shirt pulled up, baby feeding, no shame at all. She seemed friendly enough: when she got off the subway she geniunely thanked someone for giving her space to get her off. She wasn't old either, probably in the 30s. The strangest thing was was that no ...
Beijing, China jess_cWhen I checked in at the Air China counter for my flight back to Shanghai, I was surprised that the ticket issued showed that my destination airport was Pudong International Airport vice Hongqiao Airport. When booking the flight I chose to pick one going to Hongqiao because it was closer to my hotel. When I questioned the agent about this discrepancy and showed him the printout of the flight itinerary, I was informed that all ...
Beijing, Beijing, China ndsquirrel... has not improved by more than about 5 words, but I am getting used of standing beside, looking stupid, smiling and not understanding A WORD what is going on around me. Very nice sometimes at work, when your head is full of other things anyway. I had my share of Chinese food already, and I'm still lovin it... although a bit too greasy and could be a little less meat all the time. However, I am ...
Beijing, China estherhautle... for some Chinese to come here and file past his body to pay their respects and we would have liked to have had look ourselves but it was closed (the visiting times are quite brief). We entered the square somewhere near the south-west corner, near one of the few remaining original city gates. We walked around to the east side, stopping first to take some pics depicting Mao's Long March (or so I believe). Strolling through you don't really get much sense for what happened here in ...
Beijing, China jimmy-ellen... its steep. Going down is, in some ways, more difficult than going up and the stairs are uneven and slanted. I did four down and ups, and then I accidently did another down slope before I realize the trail back to the car park was at the top, so I had to turn around and go up again. I was soaked by the time I was done. At the beginning of the path down, there was a woman selling water so I bought one for 10 yuan.
