Hello Everyone,
I've made it safely to Hong Kong and I'm loving the energy here. It's a crazy place. I'm staying in Kowloon which is just north of Hong Kong Island in a guesthouse which is infamous for the building in which it is located: Mirador Mansion. Mirador Mansion and it's neighbour, Chungking mansion are old, rundown, tenement bu...
Hong Kong is great, couldnt have been a better start. We got here safe and sound, a little delay in heathrow due to a computer fault which meant no air con either for about 30mins on the plane. Good aclimatisation for the humidity when we got here! Found our hostel handy enough the MTR underground is as good as any of the cities which have them....
A travel blog entry from Hong kong by sein_oHong Kong is not known for the quality of it's cheap hostels. In fact, it's well known that all the cheap hostels in Hong Kong are pretty damn ghetto. Mine was no exception. There are three dilapidated high rises that contain most of the budget hostels in Hong Kong. I chose one that was supposed to be slightly nicer and walked around 6 different...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong by laura1I write this from the 10th floor of the slum known as Mirador Mansion in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Our guesthouse is one of 72 in a huge highrise. Actually the term highrise fails to really capture this place. The bottom floors are filled with curry restaurants, sex toy vendors and arabic tailors with "Good suit for you." The upper floors arereached b...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong by obiebenhamI got to HongKong with only 2 hours of sleep, arriving tired from running around in Kathmandu the previous day throwing water balloons around (See previous entry). I arrived at 6AM which I liked - It would give me all day to find a suitable accomodation. It was a saturday and also easter holiday so I was worried that most places would be full. A...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong by mookieSo we arrived on Tuesday afternoon after very little sleep on the 11 hour flight and checked into what can only be described as a chinese prisoner of war camp-slash-brothel (aka Cosmic Guest House). Its an absolute toilet, but we are now learning to love its ****** charm. We went out for a wicked dinner whilst watching the Symphony of Lights on ...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong by lozza123So we left china with a heavy heart as we had a much better and easier time travelling around than we ever thought. For all of you thinking that hong kong is part of china you are probably as surprised as i was when we got the visa that even though it is, it isn't, it is a special administrative zone - so if you have a chinese visa and go to hon...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong by saintyHong Kong... and not knowing what to expect from "Asia's City" as the posters called it. I'm not sure I was expecting soooooo many shops, shops, shops. This is certainly the city to come to spend money in! Chris and I booked ourselves into "Mirador Manson "and the place isn't as plush as the name suggests! It was a 20 story tower block of flats,...
A travel blog entry from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau and Macau by chris_lynzVery difficult to say with certainty (because of all the changes in time + intl. dateline), but I think we spent about 30 hours in the air or in airports. Slept about 3 hours the entire time. Got into HK yesterday (Friday) Chungking has too many touts & kind of angry looking young men from Africa & Middle East all over the place. Hey Les...
