The Beginning. One month in Asia, and a rough sketch of an itinerary. Bali 7-10 days, Thailand the last few weeks. Rough sketches are the best type, because things never go as planned. Sure enough, we arrive in Kuta, Bali on Saturday night. Having heard mixed reviews about this place, warnings came to fruition. I felt immediately suffocated as the harassment of street hawkers drowned out my own thoughts. The air felt ...

Today was an 8.00am pick up for a drive to the north coast. The road wound up through the mountains and natural bush where it was much cooler and we were in the clouds briefly but otherwise had amazing views of the bush and lakes. The north is far more natural and less touristy than the south. The first stop was the natural Banjar hot springs. Few people were there and they are adequately appointed with changing rooms, lockers and food outlets, ...

... regain my body to its normal shape. The other taxis began to arrive and we could then get access to the rooms as soon as Karen got on the case. The room was one of the best we have had. For once we were on the ground floor and a few steps from the pool. Cable TV and two sinks the icing on the cake, a five night super stay before we fly to Darwin and the last leg of the trip across Australia. Feelings of excitement and sense of ending dawned on ...
