One time vacation, maybe

... already know all the best spots!

We plan to visit Edinburgh before going onto London. As my husband is of Scottish heritage. I need MUCH advice on getting around Edinburg, Scotland without driving ourselve. We only have a few days before we head down to London so we would like to maximize our time there without being frantic

East Fife v Alloa Athletic - 5/12/2009

... without it but I guess a lot of people will have lots of memories of their time there.
I had thought of going to Raith Rovers game but changed my mind the day before traveling - good job I did - the Raith match was cancelled!

Anyway - enjoyed the game. Ended 2-0 to Alloa who now move into the promotion contention in Scottish League two.

Now for some action..

... itself was such a shock. It was like a combination of London and Vienna. Such gorgeous old buildings, I couldn't wait to explore..

..Meet up with some of my friend's mates in the station, aaaand then we end up in the St. James shopping mall thingy for an hour and a half. Now unlike most teenage girls - I. Hate. Shopping. Well at least just going around staring at clothes. Seriously, what is the point? My adventure ...

Sightseeing in beautiful Edinburgh

... rest.... well so we thought!

It turned out that our room had the noisiest radiator in the whole world. I managed to get a little sleep but Mark unfortunately didn't get a wink even though he had ear plugs in and had made himself a very stylish pillow helmet! He didn't really need the sleepless night as he had done a good 8 hours of driving the day before.

Anyway, there is always a silver lining.... in the morning we decided to see if the hotel had ...

Old Town/New Town

... trends and with artifacts of the day, it was a great glimpse into these lives. It's hard to imagine a household of people of leisure who spent their days reading, having tea, and directing servants on how to prepare for the next big dinner party. Houses where children were not allowed out of the nursery unless invited by their parents on special occasions. Where young girls were only concerned with catching a man and ...

Edinburgh, Day 2

... meal that I really wanted to eat since I'd left the US, and thankfully it was delicious. My chicken sandwich and hot chocolate hit the spot exactly, and after lunch we felt energized to explore more of the city. After lunch we continued our walk down the Royal Mile until we reached the palace. We both decided we didn't want to spend the money to go inside, so ...

Edinburgh take one

... tour of the highlands and...the Hebrideas (two of the islands of scotland), and while I'm reluctant to do tours, Scotland is such a hard place to get around because of the lochs and highlands that it was cheaper to do a tour. Its very expensive to catch a bus around and buses are also very few and far between. We chose a company called Wild in Scotland, who seemed the least...'****** up, strict tour'. But thats next entry.

Edinburgh Festival is my new daddy!

... stop a little longer and absorb the surroundings, which as Brad said before, were incredible in Scotland. As I said while we were there, the buildings and surroundsing feel as if they havent changed in 300 years. Its difficult to explain, but if someone rode by on horseback dressed in full knights atire i dont think i would have looked twice. History takes on a while new meaning when you are in a place like that. It's present and obvious, unlike in the states where a ...

... was fun! I know that I said that I would not write everyday but this girl from my hostel told me that I should go to the library for the free net....so I'm here instead of relaxing in my room. I just have no more energy left after that long hike...so I'm staying in and reading tonight,.....well that's the plan but i'm sure something will come up as usual! Anyways, I'm off to investigate flights and bus fares for other trips in August! Take Care Emilee
