... cruise winds along the Rhine to its conclusion. We brought on a third captain today so we can keep going through this afternoon and right through the night, arriving in Amsterdam early morning. At 3:45 pm we passed Cologne and its magnificent cathedral. Cologne, or Koln as it is known in Germany, is Germany's fourth largest city with a population of just over a million. The Romans founded Cologne in 50 AD because of its position next to a natural harbour. ...

We went to bed ahead of a long drive the following ...

After seeing all that we could in Bacharach it was back on the road as we headed up the Rhine river towards Bonn and then to Cologne. All along the river as we drove we were confronted with stunning views of castles and churches built high on the hillside. It was truly gorgeous and just as we finished noticing one castle or ...

... brief intermission from the spectacle to take shelter from the frigid wind and do our best to warm ourselves for the impending finale. Upon arriving back in Bonn, our efforts were rewarded with an absolutely mind-blowing 45-minute finale that would rival or surpass any such display worldwide. Ally's exuberance could not be contained. Once the magnificence had concluded, we had bid farewell to our festival friends, and were once again warm and comfortable back in our hotel room, she went ...
