Santiago here I come!
Well, almost. Once I finish all my exams, (2 to go), one weekend packing madness, then it's onto a 12 long-ass flight across the international date line to Chile!
As always before going overseas, I try to start preparing early. This is so far what I've done and what I have left to do.
Vaccinations - (Typhoid and Hepatitis are still covered so I only got the flu shot. Apparently the flu there is worse than it is ...
... been everything and more than we anticipated. The months of planning and saving have been well worth the effort. The mishaps and misadventures we have had were offset by the lovely people we have met, the beautiful scenery, the fascinating historic buildings and architecture and above all, the loving family we have been able to spend time with.

... on different flights and then were taken to the airport for the long flight home. Two hours in the lounge at Rio airport and then a four hour flight to Santiago. Another three hours in the lounge there and then the 12 hour flight to Auckland.
Fortunately, the flight from Santiago left at 12-30am so we were very tired and managed to sleep for several hours. The plane was very full and towards the end it became a matter of endurance. A one ...
... they went, waddling en masse, toward the space in between the bleachers. We all thought it was the cutest thing ever. How can you not be charmed by a penguin? We sat and watched about four groups of penguins come in for the night and as we walked back along the boardwalk we saw them below us heading home to their respective burrows like portly tuxedo clad waiters. This is when I decided penguins are way cooler than koalas.
Well off to Adelaide we went, and straight up to the Barossa valley to sample some of the delights of one of Australia's famous wine regions, so we took a little tour and visited 5 and tasted over 20 wines.... Some were better than others, and some were truly fantastic, and I'm almost glad that the expense involved in sending this stuff back to the UK, a meant that we couldn't really justify it - but I do have a list ...
