Little trouble in big China

When I decided to start my journey in Beijing I really did not know what to expect. My concerns were not only about being a country boy in a city but of not enjoying the noise, pollution and busy, grumpy city people...but it's not like that at all. The flight over was the usual cocktail of watching **** films with intermittent attempts to get my …

Arrived Safely in Beijing!! (Just about!)

Well we had a 21 hour journey from start to finish but we've finally made it safe and sound to our hostel in Beijing. We had a transfer in Dubai, which was absolutely brilliant by the way, such a nice airport, think we both wish we could of stayed at least one night there to see the real Dubai rather than just the posh duty free!! We have also had …

Manzhouli -> SiPing (transit) -> ShenYang (transit) -> Beijing

We were on the 'K' category trains with hard seats from Manzhouli to SiPing and that was a total nightmare (17-hour ride). People kept getting on and off and would ask to exchange seats every now and then. One could barely take a nap. Since all three …

Apart from the snow which has been falling all morning the first thing you notice when arriving at Tiananmen Square is that's massive and huge buildings flank all sides of it. I have to get my rucksack scanned just to even set foot in the square. I'm not planning on starting an uprising today so I get let in without any bother. In the middle of the …

Lovely little Chinese people run this place, always smiling and it's a peaceful hostel but only moments from the mayhem.

I've got to admit when we first drove down the hutong to the hostel we were a bit reluctant but as soon as we walked in the staff were so friendly that it put us at ease! The room was nice and the prices for tours and drinks were reasonable! We went on the Mutianyu tour from the hostel which i would really recommend! Definitely a nice place to stay!

Loved this place!!! Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Amy, our deluxe double was super clean and comfortable - even had upholstered chairs in the room. Free breakfast, tasty meals available anytime. Of the nine places we've stayed in China, Chinese Box was the best at helping guests interact in a relaxed and fun way, (family dinner, dumpling party, BBQ). Nearby subway station made city travel very easy; the hostel even lends subway cards to guests.

This hostel has so much character and a great atmosphere - we had the most fantastic time and met some great people! The staff are very helpful with everything, especially if you want to know about what's going on in the local area. It was relaxed, fun and a pleasure to stay there.

A lot of fun, but the location isn't great. stuff is really helpful.
I sprained my ankle on their arranged trip to the great wall and they had no first aid kit or ice or anything they could do to help, not that it looks like they cared enough to help either. But the hostel's staff gave me ice when I got back, they're good people.
