The Halfway Mark

Well, it has been a great semester. Those of you that will be leaving soon, I am sad to see you go, we had some good times. From Beijing to Xi'an it was a good run. Be sure to keep in contact through FaceBook, email, or whatever else and I wish you all a safe return. Maybe we will meet up again someday, but if not, it was good to know you, and have fun ...

Shanghai Suprise

Get to Shanghai expecting this amazing cosmopolitan city, but what we get is rain, and LOTS of it!! We have never seen it rain so hard, and we have to walk through it for what seemed liked miles just to get to the Shanghai museum, although we could have got the subway pretty much from our hotel to the museum, but our guide obviously thought it was a good idea to keep that information from us and make us walk in the rain! Lesley's ...

One more day in Shanghai

... and then headed to the Yu Garden and bizarre. It was drizzling off and on, but nothing too bad. The bizarre had the same junk that most other places had. I found a nice Mah Jong set for Sarah (she teachers Joy Luck Club, only seemed appropriate!) For lunch I got some dumplings as I presume one of the best places since there was a huge line all day long. They were really good, but ...

A very physical CHRIS D’ELIA from Los Angele

... movements (a lot) or the way he ended his set with his feet 90 degrees toward the ceiling and his face and shoulder nailed to the ground. Impressive and entertaining for sure. Funny? Surely, not Austin’s ANDY RITCHIE kicked things off with a set of almost-too relatable material— jokes about drug ...

Only left the hotel for a curry!

We had a major lie in today. We just could not be ***** to get up. I think this period of time where we haven't got to do much, is actually taking it's toll on us and wearing us out. We had just made the decision to drag ourselves out of the hotel just after lunch, when all of a sudden the heavens opened. Now when I say it rained, my God it threw it down. We even stuck our heads out the window watching the rain bouncing high off the street below. The thunder and ...

... it. so here is the scene. sitting at a stoplight that is red. the horn blows from behind and the car squeeks up to turn right, taking off the bumper of the stopped car. the driver of car 1 gets out, very angry. but the dude who makes the right turn, #2, if he stops, is angry too. from our perspective in the states, it was #2's fault and he has no right to be angry. however, if they learned to drive here, driver #1 was at fault. these are cultural rules you will never ...

Food and class: five days of thoughts thereon

... in Shanghai, and given the very international nature, history and population of Shanghai, an analogously vast number of cuisines are represented. We eat out a lot here. Apparently, contraband rice cookers have been smuggled into our hotel in the past, but my roommate and I have not gone that route. I have made hot cereal with Gou Qi Zi (Chinese wolfberry: blood tonic, and oh so tasty) for breakfast, but other than ...

My first solo day in Shanghai

... I got back around 10.15pm, and jumped straight in the shower. I then put my clothes in the machine and by the time I got into the lounge it was 11pm and the England V Ecuador match had just started. This was the first World Cup match I have actually watched, I know it's bad. I couldn't get into the whole 'commentary in a foreign language' thing. England won by a free-kick goal, there were only about 15 other people there in the lounge so there was no real football ...
