It was indeed, not only had she seen Grey Whales (which was the usual siting), but she had also seen a pod of about 6 Orcas - quite rare to see apparently, and Otters, Puffins and Sea Lions. Although she really loved seeing the Orcas, ...
... such a good price for fried oysters and chips! And we got some beer from the Tofino brewery and birthday cake from a local bakery. We were set up for the night. We moved to a new hotel, which was next door! The hotel was called ‘Ocean Village’ wooden cabins and again we enjoyed a fire, drinks and sunset on the same beach as the night before.
Tues – Our last day on the west side ...
... love running and chasing each other…Bacon doing more of the chasing. We sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather before preparing the bikes. Tony needed to do a quick tube change and then we were off.
Tofino constructed a handy walk/bike path next to the narrow road into town. Without the path the ride would be a little too dangerous as there is no shoulder. We were just over 2 miles from the main part of town ...
... just in time to witness a beautiful sunset. We slowly wandered down the very picturesque beach, watched some surfers try to catch the last waves of the day, looked on enviously at the beachfront houses that get to view this stunning vista every evening, and generally just soaked up the chilled out atmosphere that seems to permeate every facet of Tofino life. It is a very fortunate few who get to call this place home.
... trip's usual tour route. We didn't mind as it was a beautiful sunny day and a great way to see more of Vancouver Island.
We had been warned it would be cold out on the water so were glad to be given blankies. We had sailed for well over an hour when the captain suddenly cut the engine and pointed us to the left of the boat (port? Starboard?).
I am sorry the photos aren't better, but nothing can describe the awe we felt seeing the huge dorsal fin ...
