      ... it seemed, was covered with neat and orderly vineyards - a feast for the eye in our daily ramblings around the region. We did have several gray-sky days and occasional rain, so our photos do not show the region at its best, however the vistas we saw were memorable. The alps near Turin were faintly visible at the best locations.

      Thursday, October 16th, we began our drive out of Italy, toward the beautiful French alps around Chamonix!

      ... to get supplies from the open air market for our picnic dinner that night. Then it was on to meet truffle hunters in the hills outside Alba and their dogs which are English pointer cross. It was explained to us the difference between black and white truffles, how and where they grow. The two brothers had removed vines to plant truffle trees, mainly oak, poplar and willow.
