Laundry day! Yay!! Our landlady, Ramona, got the joyous task of cleaning lashings of smelly clothes for the group. Meanwhile, we set off to Vadu Izei town to take out some Romanian Lei, change our Hungarian Florins into Lei, or RON's as the EU called them, and to try to send some souvenirs home. We're not souvenir people per se, but we have managed to find a few items for friends plus we have a lot of winter stuff we brought with us but haven't had a chance to use as we have ...

After the day of travel we arrived in the back blocks of Romania at 10pm. We had a little bit of a delay at the border between Hungary and Romania, but we had our supplies on hand and were well prepared for the journey. This was a home stay place, ...

Found a quirky little alleyway to have lunch in - they only had one item on the menu - pork cutlet with potatoes and tomato soup, but it was yum. Them of course, we had to get icecream :) Left around 3pm ...

... and we sat in the front seat with a good view of the countryside, including lots of fields of sunflowers.

Crossing of border between Romania and Serbia was uneventful, and we were soon in Belgrade.

Most people we know have a negative view of Romania, mainly due to publicity about its despotic leader Nicolae Ceaușescu (who was executed in 1989), or stories they saw about the orphanages around that time, ...

... the same thing except that he made me stop and wait while he went in to a bar and had a shot. I drove him to drink. However, by this point I was fuming, so I had little sympathy.

The next morning he was waiting for me outside the front door. When he went to take my bag, I had had enough. I said "No! By myself! But thank you!". And off I marched...quickly going around corners to get away. One morning, I was getting dressed and he started ...
