The Big Bang

Death and organized tours are two of the great levellers of life. They are also both a means to an end, so to speak.

We're on our fourth tour in as many days. Today it's the Isle of Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii. I should be excited as we bounce across the waves on our "private" ferry, but we're sharing with about four hundred other tired cruisers. We need our friend D. She'd get a good old southern sing-along happening.

... I can now cross off of my bucket list!

The audience in the stadium was absolutely crazy, and it wasn’t even a full crowd! We’re talking flames of fire thrown down next to the field, and noise-makers set off every 20 minutes or so that actually shook the stadium. ... info desk eventually gives me a map and a station number. I arrive in a dingy grey place and find the hostel up a sadistically large flight of steps. There are bars on the windows and security cameras monitered from the desk. Naples so far seems ugly and grey, and as I'm only here to use it as a base to see Herculaneum it's not likely I'll have a chance to fall in love with it. I'm looking forward to seeing Herculaneum tomorrow, then kicking off to Rome the next day ...

So today is our last day and we head off early for a marginally better flight home on Thomson than coming. However there is the same palaver with cabin baggage and we had to sit in the coach for an hour before we could check in. But home almost on time and all the luggage arrived and we are in one piece so a good outcome!

Overall we had a wonderful time on our magical mystery cruise. We didn't get to Tripoli or Egypt or Tunisia but we had ...
