    ... attributed to Volto Santo; crown, breastplate with jeweled cross necklace, belt .....all gold. The black robe is embroidered with gold thread, as are the wrist scarves. Quite stunning. Sculptures and paintings from the churches collecton are displayed here, as are artifacts from medieval times.

    ... There was also some kind of Volunteers Fair going on all over town with booths and vendors set up in every piazza. We explored San Michele (we just couldn't resist) and decided to come back the next day for Palm Sunday mass. After exploring the church, we found the Piazza da Felice and all had some vino bianco and salami pizza.

    ... cliff, visited the Etruscian tombs which date back to the 6th century BC, and the huge gothic cathedral; climbed to the top of the 13th century Torre (tower) del Moro with its 360 degree views of the surrounding spectacular countryside, and clambered through the labryinth of rooms, tunnels and walls of pigeon nests of an ancient Etruscan underground city which still exists (but isn't inhabited) beneath the city - completed our Umbrian visit.     ... local lifestyle ie: community gardens, farming techniques, fabulous sunflower crops and the tuscan landscape including the fresh rivers, lakes & villas and the gorgeous villages. Met a fellow Australian from Sydney (in the hairdressers) living in Lucca for 6 months for reasons very similar to us the other day-amazing who you meet!
    Eight novels down and all is well in lovely Lucca....... the music is finishing this month - what's in store for August to keep us amused???

    ... that we had to alter the route to a more direct one as we were climbing and heading deeper into the black clouds if we kept on the same route. No worries.....little map work and beep bop boop. The GPS is set. We burp....gear up...and off we go. Get turned around trying to get out of town. The GPS was messed up....had to wing it....then we got on track outside of town.
