Swimming at Le Pavoniere pool

Today’s main aim is to go to the pool that Benj had recommend. The pool is called Le Pavoniere and is located in one of the largest parks of Florence, the Cascine Park, which runs along the main Arno river.

We started out really late again. The park was about 2.5km from where we are staying. Just long enough to be a bit of a walk but not too bad given the prize at the end.

... to follow what was being said and we were even able to work out some of the words. The order of the Mass was the same as at home and that helped but it was interesting too that we were able to decipher the meanings as this language is pretty much the basis of our own. Alessandra drove us to the station again and we received lots of kisses on both cheeks from her. She was just so lovely and friendlyAnd so ended our all too short stay in Bellano.

... had tables made of what is called Florentine Mosaic. They had flowers, fish, and buildings that were very pretty and colorful.

  • We got lucky! We saw the place where they make copies of the original mosaics by hand. They hand pick stone and cut it the old fashioned way with wire and stone.

    ... This is the main square of Siena. Besides being the central meeting point of this village it is also the venue for the 'Palio di Seina" a traditional horse race held twice a year in July and August. There are 17 regions that make up Seina and each are drawn a horse to represent their region. We actually watched a video on the bus after leaving Siena which showed the whole event. The atmosphere seemed equal to our Melbourne Cup but without the high roller stakeholders just the feel ...

    ... walked up. Also went through the Porcelain Museum which was at the very top of the gardens. Some amazing examples. Sat in the sun and ate a croissant - probably the worst one I have ever eaten but I am in Italy and not France!
