... refused the first room because the shower was dirty - the one I ended up with had someones knickers still drying on the curtain rail! Also I had a toser next door - this guy coughed hm-hm-hm-hmm about every 20 seconds non stop - it was obviously from it's sound & rhythm a mental rather than phgsical cough - the lovely hotel manager did not take seriously my concerns - had to end up sleeping with earplugs and my head under the fan to try and blot it out.

Gallo Pinto, Pollo Frito!!!

... wake up call the following morning, so we went straight to bed. We woke up at 4am to shower and check in at the Tica office, conveniently located in the lobby of the hotel, by 430am. The bus departed promptly at 530 and before we knew it, we were headed to the El Salvador/Guatemala boarder. Either we made really good time or a 5 hour ride seemed like nothing compared to the day before, but we were in Guatemala City at 1030am. From what I could see from the bus ...

Somehow we made it
through the night at the hotel- we slept with the light on! I at least
wanted to see the bugs if they were going ...

Costa Rican Boarder- Worst Yet

... the guides was driving me crazy. Telling someone "no" 10 times still seems to be a yes in their minds. I’m very lucky for Christina’s calming abilities.

Second annoyance! In order to drive across the boarder you have to get you car sprayed for insects. I went to pay for this car spray and when I was given change Accidental dropped it on the ground. There was a truck driver standing next me who reached down to pick up a coin, I’ ...

What a fun it is to go out on a saturday night...

... crowded with gay people and woman are hardly to be found in this cozy place. Not to mencion the crowd of men, that is not interessted in looking out for women at all, but to hook up with some Tico, that is willing to fulfill their necesidad to become the affection they long for. For all of you, that have asked us about Tico men and how they are, we must really disappoint you and its sad to say so. They are adcited to sex and no normal teenage kid in Costa Rica ...

Christmas Day 2008

... plastic chairs on the SE side of our 'cabina' (no balcony, no Merlot, no stars, no lava) we spent almost two hours being absorbed into the windy world about us: landscape, Arenal, and Lago (lake) Arenal - appearing, receding, and reappearing in chaotic, white to dark gray wind-directed kaleidoscopics. Large black predatory birds - hawks? vultures? - with wingspans of three-four feet http://www.1-costaricalink.com/costa_ri ca_fauna/black_vulture.htm soared like ...

Our feet are tired....

... waterfall I´ve seen. The water was tinted blue from dissolved copper salts, and we went for a cold swim under the canyon like walls of the circular watering hole...Along our 7 hours of hiking, we saw a couple of agoutis, a few monkeys, a bunch of birds, and some fantastic lizards. We all had fun. Now, here´s the not so fun part...we just got word from another traveler that there has been a transportation (bus and taxi) strike in Nicaragua because of high gas prices...we ...

La Fortuna

Becca So we finally met up with my friend Kenery and her bf Wirt in La Fortuna, which is a small town near Volcan Arenal, a large active volcano. The hostel we all stayed out turned out to be kinda gross and the owner tried to scam us on every activity we did...so we learned quickly to book all our activities elsewhere. Asaf and I got there via a jeep-boat-jeep from Monteverde, which was kinda cool cause we got to see ...

Spring Break - PURA VIDA!!

... This seems like a fairly good way to limit the consumption of alcohol. Or so I thought 12 months ago when I met Jag. My Kiwi travel buddy. However back then, we didn't have rule 1 and 5. Which meant we were basically allowed to drink any time we wanted. The rules do become a little more detailed, but ill spare you the intricacies for now. Cousin Jenny and I arrived in Tamarindo on a Saturday night (woohoo, rule 4 and 2 can be combined for extra bonus points!!) We ...

Our Fried Egg Eureka

... our hostel. At this point, Al and I were tired of eating out every meal had stocked up on some basic supplies at the local grocery. Eggs, cheese, bread, butter, etc. Well, when you put all those together and fry them in a skillet, it turns out you get a damn good sandwich for the road. With a little tweaking of the proportions and heat, we became expert fried egg sandwich cooks.
