It is kind of hard to believe that I have never previously been to Venice, one of big European tourist magnets, but I hadn't. In fact, prior to this trip, I had only been to Florence, Siena and Pisa in Italy. I think the main reasons are the churches and food. I could die happy without seeing another Catholic monstrosity dedicated to the greed of the Church at the expense of its flock, and I generally don't like Italian food (more on that to come) ...
... made us all get up and dance for the rest of the bus trip. Definitely alpha material. ;) We had drinks on the steps that evening back at the hotel. With the entire contiki group which was nice. Mitch and James lost their keys down the drain and I lent them my clothes line which had a hook on it. They used this as well as dental floss fully Maguiver style to retrieve the keys. I then played a fishing game by hooking onto people's clothes. Good ...
... for a while. It would make
for a glare filled day. We headed for San Marco and navigated through
narrow streets and many a bridge. Our booking for the basilica
allowed us to priority entrance. The line we were in was for reserved
tickets - and so many people were kicked out of the line because they
didn't realize they needed a ticket for that line. Der can you not read?
Was good for us though!! The line halved! We got inside and
gawked at the marvelous ...
... it had just started to rain gently, picked up our brollys & went for our last meal here. Then we wandered once more towards the station, caught our last ferry & returned home to pack up for tomorrow morning. Over the past 3 days we must have averaged more than 2hours a day on vaporetti & they are a great way to see the place. At €30 for the 3 day passes we surely had our moneys worth.

We had done a day trip to Venice earlier, and we had a great day experiencing Venice and the culture of the famous Carnivale celebrations. But, when Luke showed interest in going I was happy to go for a second time and actually be able to see the beauty of the city without the people in costume flocking around every Street.
