They prepared some dishes we were looking forward to, had decent wine glasses, and were a few euro cheaper since they didn't have the waterfront view (given the amount we had seen the water this trip, this was not a priority). We each ordered a pasta to start (Trofie with pesto and pansotti with walnut sauce). For mains, we had a baked anchovy "casserole" (looking for right name online...) with potatoes ...
... waiter actually offered double expresso Cappuccinos! Such luxury! Only other downside was the large number of young people smoking their hearts out next to our table. Other travellers tell us this has actually reduced over the years but it is a real shock to see so many locals, young and old puffing away.
Anyway, Steve and the others did the 1 hour 'walk' from Corniglia to Vernaza then we met up for a train trip ...

... I then eventually found another sanctuary. Just as beautiful and serene as the last. I bought a couple of these veggie pastry things and a beer and then sat for a good time and just admired Monterosso from above and the peaceful sounds of nature. What a day. I then headed down to Monterosso and took a siesta on a bench by the beach. Woke up an hour or so later and headed to the train. Ended up taking 2 of the wrong trains because they both skipped Vernazza. ...
