The scuba experience

An inauspicious start to the day: a 40 minute queue with US immigration. Took a taxi/bus to Secret Harbour Bay. We were going to Megan's Bay, however with 4 cruise ships (one of which was the new and very big Ocean of the Sea) and some 18,000 visitors it was expected to be busy! Secret Harbour was a quiet, pleasant (and very hot) beach. David went off scuba diving for an ...

... some difficulity. Just weird, must have gotten waterlogged!

I just did some sightseeing this afternoon. Here's a hint if you're coming here within the next year or so. Don't bother to go see, "The World Famous MountainTop!!!" (Just check my pictures)

... side. I went to town twice and am still here.

It is nearly impossible to walk anywhere from the motel because the area is so hilly. I’m winded just walking to the main lobby! I am just a few feet from the beach, and the room overlooks a picturesque cove. There’s a small restaurant/bar on the beach where I had lunch yesterday.

I got my sunscreen and am ready for the beach tomorrow. I’m not gonna lay on the beach, but ...

Adventure starts tomorrow

Getting up at 2:30 to drive to Bangor and travel on planes until 2 this afternoon has taken it's toll. I,m TIRED!. Chel & Kenny were waiting for me at the airpiort and took me to my "home" for the next week. I had decided not to rent a vehicle, but the more I think about it, the more I think I will. (Just a lot nervous about driving on the "wrong" side of the road!) The plan for tomorrow is to go sailing.

... you can see the Atlantic from one side and the Caribbean from the other. After leaving the real estate office again I walked for a few miles around Red Hook. I stopped at a store and bought a cold beer. Still feels weird drinking down here, especially in public. I went to the service meeting tonight and I'm going out in service tomorrow. It's pretty late now so I can't write in detail. I'm feeling pretty good, no homesickness yet.

The power of intuition

... Magen's Bay way probably the best beach site to be at. White sand, barely any people, blue water, rum, sun, and pure relaxation. I never wanted to leave. "Maybe you had the dream because there was a reason to leave instead of a reason to go there." Julie said to me at one point. She always found a way to make sense out of my dreams. This is dedicated to Julie Perry, wonderful travel companion and good friend.

The Most Beautiful Beach Ever!

... the expensive homes we saw were owned by Madonna, Alan Alda, Michael Jordan, and Tim Duncan. The coastline of St. Thomas was absolutely beautiful but before we knew it, we were crossing the channel towards St. John's. While I was enjoying the view and the cool breezy air, I started feeling a few drops fall on my head. I thought it was just mist from the sea when all of a sudden the sky broke open into a full on downpour. Everyone ran to seek shelter but ...

Caribbean Charm

... fusion of delicate magenta and scarlet. How different the scenario was just 24 hours ago - cars dodging the light-rail train back home contrasted with sailboats dodging big ships in the harbor here. The Virgin Islands, an archipelago owned by Denmark until 1917 and also referred to as De tidligere Dansk Vestindiske Řer (The Former Danish West Indian Islands), were originally discovered by Columbus in 1493 during his second ...

AFU Chronicles - Caribbean Chapter

... We would have all gone but Heather didn't have her passport, too bad because that was my favorite part of the trip! After the meeting we decided to explore the downtown area. Annie & I had our picture taken with Oprah the donkey, and we have an awesome of Heather kissing Oprah. Heather also tried to kiss the iguanna that was on our deck everytime she saw him. So in typicall AFU ball usting fashion, we called her Elmira, which later ...

... It was hard to tell who were the rich 'snowbirds' wintering in the tropics and who were the locals relaxing after a hard day selling insurance or working at the check-out. Then the band played 'If I Had $1,000,000' by the Bare Naked Ladies, and it became obvious. Those of us without a million dollars were whooping and singing along dreaming of expensive art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel, as the song goes), whilst the snowbirds sat quietly horrified, probably thinking to themselves 'If ...
