... worthwhile (and hopefully worth the money, i'll see when I work out how much I've spent). I obviously won't be uploading the 4000 photo's I took but anyone is welcome to see them, they need only ask; and set aside around 5 hrs to go through them. This is Mike's log.......signing out.

St Mary's Church

A surprise - wasn't expecting to see this type of detail in a non-fancy church. Looks like a farmhouse on the outside, but on the inside a very detailed painted ceiling.

I would guess that not too many people actually make it out to this site.

On the way to Skye

... up on the A9 we went past the entry to the Monarch of the Glen – apparently the royals turned down this house and took up Balmoral residence so this was made available for the popular tv show. Going through the countryside full of drenched highland cattle, black faced sheep and ram and loads of Heather we later went through Glen Gloy which is meant to be known as the 'Great Glen'. Further on we went past the Well of the Seven ...

Dunkeld

After a fantastic 13hour sleep we got up and ready for a full on day of adventure. First up was the local township – Dunkeld. We visited Dunkeld Cathedral which half is used for church services and the back half were in ruins and inside held headstones. Beautiful architecture throughout and we were able to walk through the church to a mini museum which went into more history on the ...

Highland Games at Perth

... felt watching the Highland Games was the sense of tradition and history. Even though we all enjoy our modern world today with iPhones, internet,
television, cars, etc it's a great feeling to know that something has been going on more or less the same for a couple hundred years. Especially watching the bagpipers and drum majors in their incredibly beautiful outfits doing their well-practiced routines, I got the feeling of those centuries of history being passed down. It ...

... around the corner came some rafters so we spent a couple of entertaining minutes listening to people scream themselves silly going over the rapids.

Ms Garmin had recovered her composure by now (it is a she as the voice cajoling you this way and that is an Aussie lady.) so It was onwards to ye 5000 yeard olde Yew Tree, the oldest tree in Europe. For those of yew (sorry I couldn't help myself) who are fans of Robin Hood (the real one I ...

Scone at Scone

After yesterday's guided tour we thought it best to take Dorothy in our vehicle. We first went to see the votive candle stand Dorothy gave her church in memory of Peter. The church was still closed but we waited for the 10 o'clock service and attended that. The church is St Kessog's Scottish Episcopal Church. Although much shorter, the service was very similar to Catholic ceremonies – some prayers were word-for-word identical, but for the consecration of the hosts, the ...

Och, what a bonny place

Rose at 5(!) to catch the 7:15 ferry from Larne to Troon (Look up an atlas or Google Earth). The Irish Sea was beautiful and calm in the early light and the coast road coming into Larne looked like the road coming into Cairns from the north, but quite a bit cooler! We had a bit of a panic when ther woman on the gate could find no record of our booking! Turned out the name had been mis-spelled - and this is in Ireland, home of the Carrolls!
Stopped for a ...

... all colours. There was a lake surrounding all of the lights too. They played some music and had the lights changing and steam coming from the water so that was pretty cool. It was definately worth the money. It's just too bad that my photos didn't work very well or else I would have posted them! Today I saw next week's schedule and saw that I have three days off in a ...

Driving to Pitlochry

... of Dochart. The next day we took a white water rafting trip down the River Tay. The trip took us from Aberfeldy to Grandtully (6 miles long). There was a mixture of Class 1, 2 and 3 rapids. All was good until the raft tipped over during one of the class 2 rapids. Mark hurt his hand trying to hang ...
