Return to the big city

A travel blog entry by eatrunplaysun

Headed back to northern Thailand from the beach because, at that time of my arriving, the plan was to take a slow boat to Luang Prabang, Laos. And leaving from northern Thailand was where I needed to be.

Chiang Mai didn't seem so big and un-manegeable this time around. I had a better sense of where I was and what I wanted to do. Staying …

Overnight stop then overnight train.....

After the nerve racking bus journey from Pai we shakily made our way back to Bow Chiangmai house, where we'd stayed previously. Stupidly, we didn't bother booking a double room for our return so were forced to have a twin room for the night. During our last stay in the town we'd passed a posh restaurant that looked amazing, so after our brush with …

Swinging through the trees & playing with tigers!

The journey from Vientiane to Bangkok was a little tiresome due to the boarder crossing into Thailand, shortly after leaving the capital. This involved having a very short twenty minute train journey, climbing out to face a customs and boarder crossing set up on the platform, before boarding a second train that transported us to Bangkok. Naturally …

Cooking up a storm in Chiang Mai

We arrived in Chiang Mai at around 6.30am after little sleep during the night. We found a nice guesthouse called Bow Chiang Mai, where we plan to stay for 6 nights. We headed out for breakfast while our room was being prepared. Heading back to the guesthouse after breakfast we had a shower and caught up on some sleep before heading out to explore …

Made it out of Bangkok!

Sorry this has been a long time coming...finding the combination of a relatively well-functioning internet cafe and the time to write anything has been a pain. Plus, I seem to be becoming a lady of leisure and reading books left right and center. I think novels are one of those things you discover on leaving university! Anyway..less is more...?! I' …

Clean, decent room in good location

The guesthouse is in a good location. The room is clean, air con a plus as it is very hot in March. I was charged 600bhat when I thought I was going to pay 350bhat. I made my reservation over the phone and there certainly could have been a language issue and it could have been on my part; I recommend that anyone reserving over the phone repeat the room price you are given a few times just to be sure of the price.

Spotlessly clean rooms and lovely staff. No breakfast options but there are plenty of restaurants around.

Nice size room with double bed and attached bathroom for 400 baht. Spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Extremely quiet guesthouse and didn't see any other guests while we were there. Friendly staff. Location on soi 9 is ok but a bit of a walk to everywhere.
