From Hermanus we drove to Swellendam. It was a beautiful two-hour drive with endless fields of wheat, lots sheep and cows. This has to be one of the major farming regions in all of South Africa. The grain elevators were huge. They even store grain on the ground horizontally covered with heavy plastic. There were rows and rows of stored grain on the ground. May 17 Swellendan 300 KM We are now in the Western Cape Area of South Africa. We were told to expect Rain at this time of year in the Cape Town/Western Cape Area; and sure enough, it is raining.
Weather has been unbelievably good for the last 3 months, so a couple of weeks of rain is no big deal.
We have now travelled 14,000 Kilometers. Should be close to, if not over 15,000 before we return to ...

Plettenberg to Swellendam

The scenery was, it has to be said, slightly diminished by the driving rain - although in this arid area it is obviously needed - the blue skies just set the mountains off.
Our overnight stop was Swellendam, conveniently located about half way between Cape Town and the Garden Route. So convenient in fact that this is our second stop here, we broke up our journey ...
