a very well appointed guest house with a pool and spa. The ground of the facility are immaculate and Maarten and Carla are excellent hosts. I would highly recommend their gust house if you are in the area or traveling the garden route as we are.

      Setting off again we
passed several old cottages which reminded me of Rabbie Burns
cottage. The difference here was that they were old fishermens
cottages. Driving on a bit further we then passed a few road signs
indicating beware of tortoise. Thats different. As we then drove on

With everything almost ready, we embarked on a trial run. This I felt was an essential part of the preparation, and would allow us to find out how all the equipment worked and hopefully allow me the opportunity to photograph local Kingfishers.

Montagu was more of a quaint village and we stopped off at the dried fruit factory and drove around a bit. We had been advised to explore the adjacent towns of Robertson and Bonnievale. However, we found these a bit boring and there was nothing to see. It was the surrounding landscape and vineyards that were beautiful. As we were in wine country, we decided to do a wine tasting session. Tom ordered the wine ...

Halfway stop to Cape Town on Route 62

I decided to take Route 62 to Cape Town and stay over at the "Warmwaterberg Spa" on a friend's recommendation. I have not slept in a caravan in 20 years. It is not expensive either and the spa water is around 40 Deg C. I stopped at Ronnie's Sex Shop just down the road. Really just a bar with a reputation, judging by the lingerie stapled to the ceiling. The scenery between Barrydale and Robertson is really pretty and a must ...

The Drostdy was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1747 to serve as residence and official headquarters for the Landdrost. Soon after a gaol, a house for the secretary, a mill and various outbuildings were erected. We took a tour of the Drostdy and these pictures document this period of Dutch Cape ...
