Kampot, Cambodia, 012-513-024
After safely finding my way to Kampot yesterday, today is sightseeing. The trip from Sihanoukville to Kampot was fun. Instead of organising a mini bus I decided to get my visa, then go to the bus station, big mistake. No buses go to Kampot, just taxis. So I found the taxi station and waited two hours for the taxi to fill up. Finally I gave up and paid an extra $3 for the taxi to leave now. But on the good side it took me directly to my guest house. I had three sights to see in Kampot. Bokor N...
Kampot, Cambodia conrad.bearWe headed southwards from Phnom Penh for 3 hours on a very bumpy road until we reached the sleepy town of Kampot. It is pretty close to the coast and is a pleasant enough town to spend a couple of days. The town is full of old French archictecture which are now decaying however there was a suprising amount of restaurants and cafes catering for tourists. We stayed in the Blissful guesthouse which was a really good place to stay. On the first afternoon, we went our seperate ways for a couple of...

Kampot, Cambodia michelle_austynWe arrived in Kampot expecting to only stay a day or two. Just enough time to get in, see the haunted Bokor Hill Station and get out. Somehow though we got sucked into the laid back, relatively untraveled riverside culture of the town and ended up staying twice as long as we expected. In truth, we just didn't want to leave Cambodia. As I've already explained ad nauseum, Cambodians are awesome and Cambodia is awesome. It is just the best country EVER! The highlight of the Kampot area is the Bo...
Kampot, Cambodia rvalenziOur bus to Kampot should have only taken 2 hours but during rainy season things take a little bit longer on the road down south. We arrived in Kampot at around 6pm. It was still pretty grey and gloomy so we headed straight to the backpacker area where we checked in at a cute and cozy guesthouse called Blissful Guesthouse. That evening we met a really nice French girl, Marianne who we booked our tour to Bokor National Park with. The next day we all met up for a great breakfast at Blissful (fin...

Kampot, Cambodia tom-of-boracayMy B&B (beach&beer) is over, moving inland. It was not possible to get directly from Bamboo Island to Kampot, so I had to go back to Sihanoukville, stay overnight and next day in the morning take a bus to my destination city. The town itself does not offer much, but is a good base point for one day trips around it. Definitely the main attraction is a visit to spooky Bokor Hill station. As I had been advised in Sihanoukville there was a reconstruction going on on the road thus the onl...
Kampot, Cambodia tsimkoFirst a confession. I am actually in Vietnam writing this having crossed the border yesterday (more about that later)and did not have time to make an entry for Kampot whilst I was there, which was only 1 1/2 days. So having left the beach, the group that I have been travelling with for the past week and a half or so headed to Kampot, a small provincial Cambodian town. We stayed at a lovely guesthouse, how could it be anything other when it was called Blissful, and picked up some useful travel...
Kampot, Cambodia vikki_terry... I understand it, there are several times during the day that the family can go to the wat and for different reasons. My 15-year-old sister Samphors has joked several times about taking me with her to the 4 AM visit which she tells me is when people walk around the large open room of the wat and throw sweet sticky rice balls around. As much as this sounds fascinating, tastey, and a great excuse to throw food, I am a bit too put off by the 4 AM factor. But throwing rice ...
Ângk Tasaôm, Takêv, Cambodia ckulenguski... the roosters and gaggle of geese tend to start making noise around that time and it can be pretty loud at times. I have to crawl out of my little fort, a large bamboo bed with a mat covering the slats and a small thin matress over that (Khmai people don't usually use matresses, they normally just sleep on the mat or a hammock, mainly because of the heat) all of which are under a big mosquito net which I am thankful to have since it keeps out not only mosquitos ...
Ângk Tasaôm, Takêv, Cambodia ckulenguskiToday I got a boat out to Koh Tonsay or Rabbit Island. I took a small boat (long boat) out about 30 minutes to the island. The waves caused the boat to sway greatly. It wasn't that you could get sick you were too busy holding on so you didn't fall out. Once on the island we walked over to the other prettier bay, though it was winder. I spent a fun day of sun bathing, reading and hiding from the rain. The ...
