... on the other. The island is not more that a couple hundred yards wide in places. The fort is part of the National Park System so there is no development on this part of the barrier island. It’s really pretty deserted right now.
Interesting note: The white sand is ground quartz that has was down the rivers over millennia from the Appalachian Mountains. Who knew water and time could make such beautiful sand from mountain rocks? ...

There was only 2 restaurants around the hotel Mesa stayed at so unless you got a cab to go somewhere, you were stuck there with nothing to do. ...
