... rained and rained and poured. We took shelter in the open doorway of the Cathedral with a bunch of others. That was ok, but the little nuns kept popping out of the door to leave the church getting us wet in the tempest. Naughty nuns. Another family were waiting with us too, Mum dad two kids and a nana. It was 8:45 and still no sign of anyone. The other mum ran across to wait at the deserted tower in the pouring rain, first i thought that was funny as she had no umbrella ...

... the Tower and enjoyed a delicious gelato. Most of the shops were selling leather goods, souvenirs or Tuscan deli foods. We hit the road just after 5pm and carried on to find our apartment near Volterra just after 6pm. As we drove through the dry but spectacular Tuscan countryside Sam said "hey this kind of reminds me of Taihape!" And then Ben piped up "hey yeah it does too!" It was lovely to walk into the apartment to find fresh local apricots and plums ...

... would have it, it is literally right next door to us. We walked down and had a very quiet, very good dinner. The restaurant had once been owned by a guy named Billy (not making it up) who was a local fisherman. There were pictures all over the place of his adventures over the years. Scootered into Pisa and can confirm that the tower is really leaning. Hundreds of visitors climb to the top and look out from the leaning structure.

Piazza dei Miracoli is the walled complex that contains the Duomo (Cathedral or Basilica) and the Campanile or free stnding bell tower. Other ancient catholic treasures and art are also located here but we had to keep moving. ...

We arrived and soon picked up our car to start our driving adventure around Italy. I managed to navigate us to the leaning tower of Pisa. What an absolutely beautiful building this is, the whole surrounds are so clean would love to spend more time here ...
