The Queen Mary 2 is indeed a magnificent ship and watching her arrival into Capetown gave a sense of the grandeur of cruising days of old. With the big blue and white hull gliding slowly towards the dock the tugs nudged her gently alongside and as she was made secure this beautiful vessel dominated the harbor and for a few days the city skyline.

Of the many stories we heard from our guide at Robben Island, the most interesting was that many of the people tried under the apartheid are still on the criminal list in the US and can’t legally enter the country! We learnt a lot about the history of the apartheid and fight for equality on our two hour tour - a truly humbling experience and well worth the ferry trip over.

... I was in the water for about two hours before we had to go. The water visibility wasn't that great, so it was hard to see the sharks under water, but it was someone to see them just above the surface of the water. Very cool. In total we saw around 8 sharks and the largest was around 3.5 meters. From our shark adventure, we hit a local brewpub for lunch and then were on to our land adventure.
