      ... had misheard. We had Devilled Chicken, ordered by Debbie and a curry by me. He brought two plates heaped with rice, 7 assorted dishes of various types of curry and then said, 'I'll bring your chicken now Madam'. We were never going to get through this lot, but made an honest attempt by not eating too much rice. We dreaded the bill, but when it came it was more or less what we expected.       ... we?....Apparently the fort was closed until 14.00 but there were markets to see, etc,etc. Why didn't we take a cheap public tuk tuk and do a tour? Wouldn't cost much. There was one he could introduce us to (this as we were walking along) just here. We looked at them both said no thanks and went to the bureau, where we got a map and the obvious confirmation that the fort was open. Later, leaving the fort, and stopping to take a photo of a canoe, a guy came up ...

      ... buy the eggs from the fisherman and hatch them out. In one large tank there are at least 100 little ones (only a few days old) the size of a Jaffa cake all jostling for position. These are released to fend for themselves after 2 weeks. Other tanks contain 2/3 year olds who will be released shortly. These are the size of a larger dinner plates and can be picked up and touched! Their skin is similar to a rather leathery chicken. Clearly all is above board and we leave feeling ...

      ... of an old Portuguese mansion, big open windows and porches no modern freezing air conditioners here. Given that we were so wet this was the best way to dry out. This all sounds like we do nothing but eat and drink and maybe that's true because that's what Sri Lanka is all about.

Dubai was flashy with lots of money and rich people whereas people in Colombo are just trying to look after their families.
