... I would move down the coast the next day to another beach town called Unawatuna. A friend told me the diving was better down there, and I was eager to give it another shot. Also, I was approaching my 50th dive too, an achievement I had hoped to knock off at the start of the trip.

The next day I grabbed a tuk tuk and hit the road to find the next stop!

See you under the sea again soon!

All the reading I have done about Colombo makes the point that it is not one of the 'must visit' cities of the world. After exploring it, I can see where they are coming from. Although it is a friendly place it seems to lack a 'must see' place or area. Ok there is Gale Face, somewhere we will have a look at tonight if there is no repeat thunderstorm and rain, there is the market area, the Viharamahadevi Park area and some ...

Breakfast of wonderful black coffee, two fried eggs with wonderful fresh bread lightly toasted; butter, lime marmalade and a huge plate of mixed fresh fruit....pineapple, mango etc.

Southwards down the main road for a few hundred yards, then turned inland down a small lane just after we came across all the tombs from ten years ago. ...

... who perished young in the 1850's) we could hear the prayer call from the adjacent Mosque. Our guide and driver Lala is at pains to explain the history of the civil war with the Tamil Tigers lasting some 30 years and tragically costing thousands of lives. It effectively put outside investment on hold until 5 years ago. Our walk around Columbo lasted about a two hours before retreating back to our local supermarket where Cathy (in her usual excited innocence) points out ...

Colombo, more eating, shopping, drinking & eating

... Independence Square. A series of specialty shows housed within an older style building with absolutely no signage outside, and little inside. The others bought a few items here then we decided to head over to Odel, an outlet for Sri Lankan made international brands. However, it had started to rain so we had some 'short eats' while we waited for it to clear. It was still drizzling when we found a Tuk Tuk driver who knew where Odel was, and was prepared to drop the others off, get ...
