Warned beforehand that the food on board was not good, our guide brought us packed lunches. As we set off we got into conversation with a young Swiss couple sitting opposite who live near Lake Lucerne. This continued on the upper deck where you had to stand to witness the marvellous scenery, in spite of the hot ...

Finally we headed back to downtown Yangshuo and climbed to the top of a peak in a park there to see the sun set. We were in awe of people fishing in the river and washing their clothes in it too. The water was very clear and pretty shallow. We watched many water buffaloes having a cool dip along the way. Our next stop was Pudi, a local countryside village. This stop will probably be the ...

... the rain as a positive, as there seemed to be less tourists and a mystical element with the rice fields seeming to appear from the mist. We had only a few hours to look around before packing back into the bus for the trip back to Yangshuo. The rain still hadn't let up the next day, which scuttled our plans of cycling the countryside and doing a few nearby walks.
