Day 72 - Avignon of Popes and Palaces

... to the village. We strolled the route from our gite (rental) through town, past the church, bakeries, small shops and the mayor's office and a small open air market where we bought some fresh goat cheese. The walk took an hour.

Day 71 - Provence Provincial

... was a travel day, it also became a laundry day. It took a couple of hours to get caught up but we succeeded. Next it was off to Avignon supermarket for groceries for the week. We returned about 5:00 and settled in for the night. We lit a fire in the fireplace as the temperature in the old stone cottage was a bit cool. The fire, some jazz and some Côte de Rhine wine made for a lovely evening.

... there. And a very modern art exhibit in which some pieces would shock even today's clergy. Envision a bloody, dead, preserved horse? Stranger than Dali to say the least! From the top of the tower we had a nice view of the Rhine River and the town. We also visited the famous bridge, which is really quite short now, most having been destroyed by periodical floods ...

... and had some champagne and the boys beers.....there was some sort off demonstration going on with cops everywhere and very noisy people. Don't know what it was about. We went back to the same bar for dinner ....which was ok, Andy had Moules and frites, Shar and I veal and B had a pork dish and frites. Early night as Andy very tired after long drive, SUNDAY 23 SEPT Said our sad goodbyes at 7am when Sharon and Andy left , they wanted to get on the road to Calais early. ...
