... town along the bike/walking trail that runs next to the beach.

As we walk along, we pass some magnificent old houses. Sopot was once and might still be a lovely seaside resort for Poles with money. Some of the other old houses have turned into museums and bed and breakfast places. We pass a "lody" place. We know that this means ice cream so get a soft serve cone. Hubby has a cappuccino as he ...

Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad, Russia nayda_dewToday we were supposed to dock at Gdansk, Poland but the sea was too rough so we had to go up the coast about 10 miles and dock at Gdynia. At Gdansk, a river empties into the sea and that is where the port is. It had been raining so much that the water coming from the river would not allow us to enter. The entry to the port was very narrow, no place to turn the ship around, and we were going to have to back in anyway. Gdynia was the ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland hagatha... want to do at a much earlier age than Americans. Both of them took some time off in between, so that set them back a bit more than usual. Eva claimed that she wanted to practice her English, but she always refused to speak it, so we pretty much only spoke Swiss German (I can always use the practice). Chilling on the beach made me think of the days of chilling on the beach in Greece with Mir (aka Miranda). The beach is quite nice here in Nida, but it was way way ...
Nida, Lithuania chuckonearth... the hair cut and she was able to trim all the facial fuzz down to small stubble (just the way I like it). So I didn't have to shave, therefore not having to break my over 4 year streak of never having a shave (no wet, electric razor, nothing, just trimming). The hair cut was refreshing. Its kind of weird, when I have a beard and some longer hair, I felt like I look like a fuzzy, harmless, and ...
Nida, Lithuania chuckonearth... backwards ended up landing on my back on my rucksack, nearly ended up in moat - very muddy coat and rucksack. Went up a less steep part, but as was so overgrown and wet I got absolutely soaked, so went and caught bus looking a right state. Pointed to a map for the place I wanted to go and conductor very helpful and showed me a passenger getting off at same stop. Great but obviously couldn't read map as I was about 2k from South station. Decided to walk, brought my ticket for Gdansk ...
Kaliningrad, Poland ced... 1h 15m whereas attendant claimed 15m. Checked with reception and I had been in Kaliningrad for 5 days on the wrong time as there was a 1 hour difference with Poland - ****. Sent Olga an apology email straight away. All the trains run on Moscow time which I thought was +2 but was +1. Went to recommended pub again and got back in OK. Set alarm for 2 hours before train left. Out to recommended pub for a couple then to bed. Tuesday 29 August Alarm woke me up but ...
Zelenogradsk, Poland cedFriday 25 August Up at 9 where I was greeted by Muskovite, I said beer is in the fridge, he said he knew and he'd drunk the them, so god only knows what was going on the previous night. Got my bag, changed in toilet to much confusion of cleaner, Bag back in cellar and went for a run to Baltmore tours, where the office girls started uncontrollably giggling, to pay for tour. There visa machine wouldn't work so they took €5 off the bill if I paid in cash ...
Kaliningrad, Poland ced... on the newly built cycling tracks on the spit. Alongside the cost, through Mediterranean forests and with frequent stops at the beaches it's a real pleasure and recovery after the busy days in the cities :-) Neringa is the place I've most longed for on this trip. So much that I was afraid that I could be disappointed by my high expectations. But never ever! Click here to jump to more info on Neringa
