A short three hour bus journey would take us to Sukhothai, one of the many different kingdoms of Thailand, which flourished during the 13th and 14th centuries. Yes it was time for us to get a little historical again. There will be a huge break from temples when we reach Bangkok and the islands in around two weeks time. Something we have definitely earned!
We stayed for three nights at a lovely place called At Home, in New Sukhothai town. It was run by a small family and they really di...
We finally dragged ourselves out of bed around 9 and went down for the free continental breakfast. No buffet set up...okay how does this work. The waitress seated us and brought of coffee, tea, orange juice, 2 pieces of toast and jam. Not bad im thinking. Then they bring our breakfast 2 eggs, 2 sausages, ham and bacon. Wow. Wasn't expecting that. Nice..... After breakfast we went back up to the room to get ready for our day, being nosey as usual I looked at several of the other rooms in the h...
Sukhothai, Thailand savageharmony Arrived in Sukhothai on the 15th by six-hour VIP coach journey from Bangkok. VIP consisted of a reclining chair, a bottle of water, a sandwich of unknown content and a television showing six hours of dodgy 80's Thai music videos combined with a Thai version of Noel's House Party - with guns!
Our hostel here is quite pleasant, a very old wooden building with lizards crawling around but New Sukhothai isn't that nice, nowhere to really eat or drink and a large number of stray dogs. Howeve...
... to see and do there. We walked around the town a bit in the afternoon but because it was Sunday, it was absolutely dead. There was practically no one in the streets and all the shops were closed. Since our guesthouse didn't have a TV, we called it an early night, lights out at 9:30 PM and we slept for 12 hours straight. Felt great!
To get to the Old Town, we had to take a bus - well not exactly a bus, but a songtao, which is a ...

It would seem that Sukothai is a much wetter area than the others we have been in recently. The plant growth is much richer and there is a moist atmosphere all around even though it is not actually raining at present. This was confirmed as we went to bed the first night and realised that we were completely surrounded by numbers of frogs humming, croaking and barking at incredible volume. Our shed has mesh windows which do not give much ...
... to honor Boon Lott's memory, and to create a home to protect and respect Thai elephants that are in grave danger. She first rescued Pang Tong, Boon Lott's mother, and saved her from returning to a cruel life of illegal logging work. Seven more elephants, each with their own touching stories, have joined Pang Tong so far. What is it like to visit BLES? Located in Si Sathchenalai, in Sukhothai province, there are beautiful Thai villages and towns nearby. BLES is about an ...
Sukhothai, Thailand nseversSukhothai Most travelers that come through Sukhothai come to see the very impressive 8th to 16th century temple ruins of the former Sukhothai Kingdom. The Sukhothai complex includes the Old Sukhothai City Historical Park and well preserved temple ruins which spread throughout the area for about 50 kilometers. The area is designated as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site. The Sukhothai kingdom, which translates literally as "Dawn of Happiness" 700 years ago was ...

Sukhothai, Thailand 50odd... it's just outside the east moat and it's also close to the night market. It had a fridge, TV, phone, AC and private bath with hot water for 600B ($21CDN). This is what I was looking for. I could have had something for under 300B, but I wasn't that strict with my money yet. I walked to the night market and got something to eat there. The night market covers several blocks and they sell all kinds of handicrafts. After eating I called it a night.
Sukhothai, Thailand kiki1975... we had in the UK last month, put it that way, the floods we'd seen on the Thai News reports were ferocious.
I'm a bit gutted about the grey skies because the photos aren't coming out very well, but I guess I should be happy that we've avoided any apocalyptic downpours... so far!
The temples and statues themselves were ...
