... so organised the cutting through the rocks to form this beautiful scenic route. The main part took approximately 20 Years to complete but was finally finished in the 70's. ... There's nothing like checking out a town with a true local. How else would I end up at the secret little speakeasy club up a small staircase above a busy bar? We even signed in upon entry. This joint, which shall remain nameless to protect its speakeasyness, was a treat! Hand made simple syrups, mixers, and the most craftily curated cocktails. The vibe was old, it felt authentic. This was the perfect night cap!

We left this morning around 8:50 - travelling to Ashville today. It was a lovely drive through the mountains. More colour in the trees than what we saw in the park. 15 degrees today!! Arrived at Lake Powhatan State park near Ashville around noon. Found 2 campsites, set up camp, had lunch and headed out for a hike on Mt. Mitchell.
