... mice poo around our bedding!! So we spent the next half hour emptying, shaking, and stuffing toilet paper in gaps to prevent further unwanted guests. They kept coming and at 3am enough was enough and we drove to a different site!! Amongst all this rodent-related fun we'd climbed avalanche peak (1833m) and had been lucky with the weather. It was a very steep climb up through beech woodland, and scree, topping out over a ...

The West Coast is notorious for wet weather as high wind comes off the Tasman Sea and can't get over the mountains, condensing and causing rain. ... It was easy to forget just how big the glacier is until you catch a glimpse of another group looking like tiny ants on the vast gnarly area of shattered ice and rock. As we got back to the landing site for pick up we heard they'd cancelled the rest of the days flights as it was becoming to windy to fly so once again we were really lucky to have caught the weather right for a perfect trip. Having landed safely back down on the ground it was back in the van ...

... showing minus 1.0 degree outside.

It was also minus 1.0 degree on the inside as my attempt to set the heating and suchlike was poor by anyone's standards. It turns out that if you can't plug the van in to an external power source you need to transfer the central heating and water heating to gas. I knew I should have listened more closely to that Kelly woman back at the camper van company.
