... using such a day to check out one of the many thermal baths (termálfürdő) that are all over Hungary. We have recommendations from several people, and after doing some research decided to head to Miskolc and the cave bath. Laci stopped off before we left with some cookies "for the boys", that had a very pungent alcohol flavor. Laura tasted one right away and decided it was a whiskey filling, so we aren't really sure if Laci was joking or not, but we are ...

As Keith mentioned yesterday, I had coffee this morning with Elza Kovacs, the woman from Debrecen, in eastern Hungary who visited me in West Lafayette for one month last summer. It was great to have a friend to meet and something to do on my own. Even better because I convinced Keith to take the boys and brave the weekly grocery shopping without me. We met at a local cafe, and Elza introduced me to the world of Hungarian cakes - apparently these ...

... in the skinny streets. After a stop at the ever-fabulous McCafe for coffee (it was the only thing open on a Sunday), we hiked up to see the castle. This particular castle-ruin was perched atop the hill, (much like all military fortresses with available hills). Anyway, there were some absolutely spectacular views of the town below. I love the way these brightly coloured towns look from a ...
