Wow! Nothing prepared me for the grand scale of the Blue Mosque. Compared to yesterday's chaos getting into the Topkapi Palace, entry into the Blue Mosque was fast and orderly. Hard to imagine that there is a 1000 year difference between the construction of the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. We followed this with a visit to the Mosque of Suleyman the Magnificent, which is as grand as the ...

Today Goga picked us up at 8.30 am and took us out for the day. We drove a coastal (and local way) to Ston ....passing the magnificent views looking out to the Elephant Islands which are off the coast and are a backdrop to the beautiful glistening and vast water of the Adriatic. To our dismay, the sky was getting dark with clouds and it was only early afternoon, and even though we were aiming for Dubrovnik, our knee-jerk reaction was to stop at the next town before our nightmare of wetness was re-lived. The town was ...

... however soon after we heard a bellowing from across the water to see an elderly man waving his arms furiously whilst yelling and pointing to his wee boat and what appeared to be the only mode of passage across the gap. We decided to take him up on his offer so across he rowed and the four of us with bikes piled in and off we set. He was quite a character and got us to the other side safely for a mere $5.00. The ...
