After our arrival in Kandy we started to walk from the bus station to the city center. As usual, we didnīt book any accommodation in advance so we had to look for something convenient first. ... civil war. The people seem kind, with huge smiles. Everyone tries to sell you something, and tell you they know of a better deal than the one your getting. A lot of the women wear beautiful sari's, a lot of men wear sarong type wraps instead of pants. In some local places it is customary to eat with you hand. ... paintings - really pretty. The main shrine is golden and a curtain hangs to cover the tooth casket. It's only visible during the prayer times. Outside is pretty, a small fountain, a large hall with ornate wooden poles to hold the roof up. And a row of lit up burning oil in small terracotta dishes. The actual temple was fairly small. Mammoth journey today in a 3 wheeler. Our previous host Halantha (from Theresa Estate) advised us to take the long route which goes up the mountains and through the jungle. Sounded like a good idea but ended up being 7 hours in the back of a tuk tuk with 2 backpacks! Views were pretty spectacular, but doesn't look as much on the photos as you'll see.
