Siem Reap

Siem Reap: Gateway to the Temples of Angkor. The city itself serves as an access point for the temples, offering over priced accommodations, restaurant menus featuring authentic Cambodian dishes such as Croque Monsieur (?), and Tuk Tuk drivers educated in the fine art of annoyance. The mighty dollar rules here, as in most parts of South East Asia. …

The centre of the Khmer Empire

02 Dec.
Arrived in Cambodia we were flooded with greetings, smiles and very helpful people. But also with hundreds of tuk-tuk drivers wanting to bring us somewhere else. Super annoying after one day.

After checking out the old town we headed to the nearby lake Tonlé Sap for a beautiful sunset view. On the way down to the lake …

Angkor WHAT?

I've been in Siem Reap for a week now, and half of that time has been spent recovering from the worst hangovers I've ever had! It's lovely here, and it's very easy to sit back and go with the tourist flow. You can get manicures, pedicures and massages all for $1, then get some Chicken Amok for $2 and wash it down with a pitcher of Angkor beer for $ …

Indiana Jones and Lara Croft Do the Temples

We arrived in Siem Reap on the Saturday having to spend a night again in Phnom Penh to get the connecting Bus.
we checked into a grubby guesthouse when we got there and decided to go out for a few beers and weirdly met a couple of girls from New Zealand who were going to work in Aberdeen the following week. And then even more weird we met a …

The pool was such a luxury!

The staff and facilities were lovely.
Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean.
They served up a nice breakfast in the morning.
But the best part after a long hot day of temple exploring was unarguably the pool to cool down in at the end of the day! Don't let its size deter you... trust me it was a slice of life!

Average hotel, had real problems getting our breakfast which was supposed to be included in the price. When we did get it, it wasn't worth the fight.
Better value at other places, booked ahead though as places fill up.
