To be done later, I should only say a gentleman picked me up shortly after my gas station self-reassurance of direction. He said it was dangerous, as most do, to be in the so-west at night. Took me 20 miles or so, and then i rode around till finding a free ranch. Horses were outside my tent. It was Constellation Hill, or something like that. I will have pictures. Good looking saloons, but I slept and left in the morning. Getting into tremendous desert soon enough! Peace!
Wickenburg, Arizona, United States jblankissuper... 66 Diner, where I indulged while listening and watching trains roll thru, across the street. Visited Hastings Books, a great bookstore chain, to pick up a copy of Let's Go Roadtripping USA since I think I am going to do some different options on the long road home. A pleasant break before hitting 98 to Wickenburg and admiring the twisted forms of the Joshua Forest, the mts all around and a number of elegant saguaro with prickly pears. The jumbles of ...
Wickenburg, Arizona, United States vulcanriderFriends and Family, This was a pretty intense day on the bike with more than 100 miles of riding and approximately 4,000 ft of climbing through 5 passes. The climbs were of the type that seemed relentless, and when you finally did crest a rise, rather than the expected down hill, there was a brief level section before another long climb. By the ...
Wickenburg, Arizona, United States kzuberHi everybody again. As I told you my days in Baja are now over and I have the possibility to tell you guys what we did during that time. But to tell you the truth, there didn't really happen much, besides all kind of problems to manage. At first I had to pick up Claudi from LAX, which is the Los Angeles International Airport. The next day we drove down to Baja California. We arrived in Tijuana, Mexico about 3 o' clock in the afternoon. The first problem we ...
Phoenix, Arizona, United States maastradamusWhen I woke up this morning, the snow was still falling in Albuquerque and the early (825 am) flight that I was going to try to get on via stand-by had been canceled, so I decided to take a taxi into Phoenix and see the Heard Museum. This museum, which began with the collection of the Heards, but has since been expanded (and in which every room/space has been named for a donor) houses a large collection of Native American art. First, I went through the main ...
Phoenix, Arizona, United States krb2gJust as we were dipping into the Albuquerque airport, we felt the plane begin to ascend again. A few minutes later, the pilot came on the intercom and told us that we couldn't land in Albuquerque due to low visibility; but that we would continue on to Phoenix. Upon arrival in Phoenix, the 38 people with connecting flights got to take the plane on to Seattle, while the 88 of us who wanted to go to Albuquerque had to queue up ...
Phoenix, Arizona, United States krb2gNow we headed to Pheonix Arizona a college town in the middle of the desert! hot and sunny, typical desert town. Headed to a College Ice Hockey game jam packed with violence which i loved!! scored great seats, and a beautiful sunrise... one night here and no happening clubs could be found so no night life pics.
Pheonix, Arizona, United States annieek... I'm a nervous flyer. I don't get sick, I don't ever feel like I'm gonna be sick. But I am nervous. I think it's because I'm a not so secret control freak and I am NOT in control of the plane. But while we were driving to the airport, I secretly wondered if I should be more nervous about the drive TO the airport. The next adventure is finding a parking spot. David manages to snag a spot very close to the elevators ...
Phoenix, Arizona, United States izzybazHad a wee problem getting back into the States - apparently immigration didn't have a record of me leaving, so, on my return to the UK, I will have to prove I left the country. The guy wasn't very amused when I pointed out that I must have left the country to now be standing in front of him in arrival immigration. The department for homeland security don't like that kind of logic and I quickly realised I'd better just shut up. Anyway, 1 night in Chinatown LA ...
Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States littlesthobo... varied. The final eight miles was a great downhill into the town of Wickenburg and our hotel. Di and I arrived ahead of the group and had to wait about 45 minutes for the keys to our rooms. Michelle arrived with the van while we were waiting, so we had access to our luggage. We cleaned up and headed into town to explore. Wickenburg is known as the "dude ranch capitol of the world". We wandered the historic square; visited a few ...
