After the market we headed north up the coast where we found several closed campgrounds near the hill town of Scarlino. The town was scarily perched atop a steep hill, with a road that must have started out as a donkey. It was dark by the time we finally made it to the top, which really made the effect dramattic with the lighted walls contrasting against the dark sky beyond. Once we got our bearings we realized that we were just a few blocks from where we wanted to be - the main square of the "old" town, Piazza Garibaldi. - right on the beaches, some in the marina area, and one to the west of town that is great, with pebbly sitting area, cliff jumping, snorkling and right beside amentities
