Akacfa utca 12-14, 1st floor 111 Budapest, Hungary, 1072

After a three hour bus trip I arrived in Budapest and made my way to the hostel. The directions were pretty good so I found the place straight away although it looked more like a backstreet apartment block rather than a YHA. However, a man who looked like the actor who played Jaws in James Bond told us that the hostel was in fact here on the FIRST floor. He then took us to the hostel on the THIRD floor. The stairs lead up around a lift shaft and the whole thing reminded me of those spy films ...
Budapest, Hungary chris74The day started sunny and cloudless. We had breakfast at the hotel, took a taxi to the Metro stop at Ubanya/Kispset, and took the Metro to Centrum, then walked to the Inter-Continental Hotel so we could book a city bus tour. After the all-day tour (hop off-hop on), we walked to the Metro, rode it to the end of the line, got a taxi - and this time the driver knew exactly how to get to the hotel. We had a light meal - zucchini, tomato, basil slices with melted mozzarella on top, and a toasted c...
Budapest, Hungary dueduedue04/01 - On the move again, this time to Budapest in Hungary. The train ride was quite long and we did not arrive until the late afternoon. The trains aren't too bad, we have 1st class tickets and we usually try to get a cabin to ourselves, which is quite easy because our shoes smell so bad!! At least on a train you can stand up and move around. 05/01 - We went on a walking tour of Budapest today. Our first stop was Hero's Square. The statue's here were erected solely for tourists, they are fi...
Budapest, Hungary kristenjohn Hey Hey!
So here we are. Another country and another great city - Budapest in Hungary.
Mark was a little unsure about coming here for some reason as growing up in England you hear of the things happening in the eastern European countries fairly frequently (wars etc.). Hungary only began to move towards full democracy in 1989 and the first democratic election were held in 1990, so really not that long ago. It's still quite evident that the scars of moving to a full market ecomon...
It was a smooth and quick flight from London to Budapest - probably due to the fact that my friend, Sue, and I had not seen each other in ages and had far too much to say. I am convinced the people on the plane where thankful when we landed and they didn't have to hear us jabber away. Our excited chit chat did however get us more food on the plane!
We arrived at our apartment around 11pm and were pleasantly surprised it was so fantastic. At a bargain of £10 a night each we were...
Budapest Hungary We hired a car and traveled to Budapest. Its a very easy drive from Vienna. We expected a fairly run-down city like Rome but it was a very sophisticated and beautiful city. Both the Buda and Pest sides of the Danube are exceptional while the view towards Buda is better due to the imposing castle. However, from the Buda side you can see the Parliament building. Meals are very reasonably priced. You can order 4 excellent meals with drinks (including beer and wine) for less than...
Budapest, Hungary paparelliIt's the morning after. We are all completely shook up. Josh's heading out to the car rental place to clear everything with them and then we send Liz and Josh to the Police Station. Everything turns out fine. The car is insured and even the rental car guys meagre attempt to fraud Josh was in vain. The police got an interpreter and the interrogator likes Josh, so there's not even a fine to pay. Wow, lucky us. Kudos to hungarian police, professional, courteous, friendly, I am impressed. We elec...
Budapest, Hungary vikatwLast day in Budapest. Liz, Billy and Josh are off to the Airport in the morning. Packing, packing, packing. Kisses, hugs, farewells and well wishes. Put them in a cab. Miss them already. I drop my huge backpack of at the train station and head over to the Buda side to see the icons of Budapest. Halaszbastya, Matyas Templom, Budavari Palota and out of personal interest I throw in Budavari Labirintus. The Subway takes me safely to the Buda side and in my insanity I walk up the hill to Matthias ...

... three of us climbed to the top. We were face to face with the gargoyles and stomped the same territory as Quazimoto. Last night, our last night, we took a tour with a woman from our hostel. She was incredibly vulgar and off color. It made the tour great! We saw all of the places that Van Gogh ate, painted and so on. We visited the Basilica de Sacre-Couer which is on the highest point of Paris. Along with the Basilica there are cobble stone streets lined with ...
Budapest, Hungary juniAfter all the sun, it has turned to thundering & lightening - so it became a good day to update the website. We arrived into Budapest on Wednesday (4/26) and met Marton, who we are renting a room from, at the McDonald's across from the train station. We are located on Andrassy Street which is the main street in Budapest. Budapest is divided by the Danube River with Buda on the west and Pest on the east. We are staying on the Pest side. Upon arrival, we decided to just walk ...
