Finally, sort of out of town!

... Edinburgh soon though..

Anyway, day trip to Ellon, which is just half an hour out of town. Yay! Friend from uni lives here so went round, watched movies etc etc. Nothing too interesting, but it was nice to be away from the dorm for a bit! Leaving for holidays in a few weeks so things will finally get just a little more interesting. Until then, back to the books I go..

Preparations

Okay, random and exceptionally early entry, but here we go -

So university decided to give me three nice holidays to work with, Christmas, Spring and Summer. Christmas is Barbados, Summer is the Eurotrip, but what to do with the Spring Break?

After looking at several options like much cheaper getaways to Europe, I decided I wanted to actually do something with this vacation, something that could help people. Heading down to ...

Aberdeen So Far

... not really a good time of year up in the Highlands to go aimlessly romping around :P

In December I'll be heading home quickly, nothing special - but then I have 2 big breaks coming up.. So many choices!

So no, I haven't died.. I'm just at university!

[also - having some problems with java because my university internet doesn't like me. sooo pics will come. eventually.]

Sorry where am I?

Well I have finally begun my journey!!! It seemed like it would never actually happen, but as I boarded that plane reality began to sink in....As we all know, i have no idea when Ill be home, where ill go next, what Ill see or who Ill be spending time with....which makes it so much more exciting for me. Now i have only been here for half a day and have yet to settle, but once that ...

Getting Ready (aka the packing odyssey)

... most things are labelled in arabic there. I'll let you know if it really helps or just extra deadweight when I get there. I shaved my hair off last night too(with the dodgy aid of the reflective side of a cd-rom) so I could do without hair gel or shampoo.

To be honest I haven't really been excited about the trip till last night when I did a little more research on where I'm going. Now its all come in a rush and I wish I was leaving today instead!

At Last, Some Sun

... I'll be back in Tucson by 8:35 p.m. I've drawn some conclusions from my trip to Scotland. First, it's not as foreign as I expected. Once you get over the accent and the fact that they drive on the other side of the road here, it's easy to forget that you're abroad. The day-to-day life seems very similar to that in any town of a similar size in the U.S.

Even so, there are a few things I've liked about Aberdeen ...

Scottish Saturday

... example of a vice business operating inside what used to be a cathedral. It's really unusual.

I returned to the house, and Heather and Hannah (Heather's friend) explained to me that a typical Scottish Saturday involves going to the pub and socializing, watching sports, etc. We went to a pub and spent the afternoon doing The Times crossword puzzle. Not ...

Great Balls of Fire

... all that the National Express night coach from London to Aberdeen was involved in a horrible accident near Heathrow - it rolled over and killed 2 passengers, while 67 others were injured (some horribly, losing limbs etc etc). I'm getting a bit tired of being so continually confronted with my own mortality - I get the picture, I'm not immortal, so I wish the universe would STOP IT NOW. Soon tourist destinations everywhere are going to start paying me to stay away as ...

The Granite City

... own language - for example 'Aye', 'Bairn', 'Loch' are Gaelic in origin). The Brig O' Balgonie is a wonderful, stone bridge where many natives come to for a relaxing, peaceful stroll. Scottish Country Drive On my final day in Aberdeen, we took a drive through the countryside. This gave me an appreciation for the Scottish countryside. I saw highland cattle (a couple of cows munching down on hay and oats), the place where Rob Roy MacGregor jumped (allegedly) a waterfall to ...
