... We bought coffees to go from the store - the lady there told us she had been to Manchester but when we asked where, she said Liverpool. I guess when you ive in Arizona, 30 miles is nothing but if only she knew that the difference between those cities is measured in much more than miles!
The old vault mine trail was steep but gorgeous. The wind kept most birds hunkered down but we did spot a fabulous hepatic tanager tugging a huge bug out of a branch. A ...

... first place. All in all, a fabulous place. So glad we made the effort.
Back in the car, we made our way to Madera Canyon via the beautifully scenic hwy 62 via Box Canyon. We arrived at the lovely Chuparosa Inn around 5pm, just in time for some fading light birdwatching. Chicken salad and Pinot Grigio for tea before falling asleep in the silence of the forest.

Back down and pass a girl in Western clothes singing with her guitar as we go into the museum where we read about the mining, there was every kind of mineral not just the copper that was so profitable for the new electric wires that were suddenly needed, gold and silver too. Sad to leave it's such an interesting place and really nice people as well, but onwards to Tombstone. We get there with an hour to spare ...

... we decided to stay put & wait it out!! Good job because the rain set records & flood advisories were issued!! (I know everyone in Vancouver is laughing because they were basking in record warm weather!!) The 2 days of rain caused the creek to overflow it's banks & the path we had walked the previous day was under water! Off to Tucson & some sunshine - that's what the forecast says!!

Stinken 39 degrees things were definitely heating up and we were becoming to realise that the dessert during summer is not the best idea.

Getting closer to Grand Canyon which is exciting. Took a walk down to the river and to check out the view, shopped a little before buying an ice-cream to settle down before getting back on the bus.
