... well after 1300 and we went for lunch rather than visiting Sher Dor [lion] Medrassa. We certainly would have had more time if Jalal had shut up with some of the irrelevant details he was giving earlier on in the day.

The medrassas bespoke of grandeur but were more monumental than ornate. Our private tour of Kyrgyzstan, having the country mostly to ourselves, was shattered in Samarkand today. There are tourists everywhere, including similarly large groups.

Big day on the tourist trail for us with visits to the 'must sees'. Same weather as usual with not a cloud to be seen and temperatures in the 30ish. The photos of Registan one has seen are obviously fantastic but when you walk around you still find it hard to be truly awed. Must be because of the sterile setting.
