... a demon fought a group of sword wielding priests. Guess who won... Was so tired and cold after the festival, I totally dropped at the hostel, which was the nicest I've stayed at so far. Very clean, very open and the proprietor is a sake enthusiast. He had a tasting session, which I decided not to do, but it seemed like fun. Hopefully will sleep deeply today because I've got a ton of train travel tomorrow. Tomorrow: Uchiko and Matsuyama -mike
Kochi, Shikoku, Japan shantiman... in her car and road trip our way to shikoku and around tokushima-ken. we had a blast of a weekend in her tinsy tiny japanese size car (think geo metro) listening to great music and snacking on amazingly delicious homemade trail mix as we snaked our way ...
Shikoku, Japan brianneinjapan... labour and a number of American prisoner of war soldiers who were not known to be in the area. They burn a flame at the site and it is supposed to be extinguished when the last nuclear device is destroyed. I guess unfortunately it might as well be an eternal flame. From Hiroshima I bulleted my way to Okayama.
HIROSHIMA, Japan sgaudun... a different side of Japanese history, as up until then, I had spent the majority of my sightseeing time on the temple trail. Spent hours in the museum which gave a very detailed history of Hiroshima before, during and after the attack. Some horrific things had been donated to the museum like pieces of burnt clothing worn by victims at the time of the bombing, along with the story of each person with details such as their name, age, where they were at the time of ...
Hiroshima, Japan andskye... weather, driving on the left is simply not easy. Masaki's polite tones took on a nervous edge after the first few minutes. Judging my distance from the centerline was easy, it's that left side that kept him gripping his armrest and saying 'too close, too close!'. Just when i thought all was well, ssskkkkrrreeeeeeeeeeee we scrape left hubcaps against the curb. After a couple hours of ultra-winding, exceptionally-narrow threading ...
Shikoku, Japan mondobri... I'd ever do again as well. I can't imagine how someone would want to see their own pets go thru this, nor how they could afford to keep these dogs if they didn't somehow gamble on them. Pachinko is illegal to gamble with, but people still make money with it, so I'd imagine this would be the same. Still, I feel kinda guilty for going to go watch this, but I feel more informed about it now, and I will say that I would never go see a pit dog-fight. That's not something that I'd like to see.
Kochi, Japan niknash... Inn" which didn't make much sense since I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be in spanish. Turns out they just didn'thave the whole name of the hotel on the outside: the Los Angeles Inn. They probably didn't realize how expensive the exterior sign would be when they originally named it. Anyways, we started off and having seen how small the city is from the bus, we decided to walk. There was a dark gray and ominous looking bus with speakers on the ...
Kochi, Japan niknash... battered by its fair share of typhoons, which is precisely why my mate James (aka "Thrillsy") made it his city of choice while teaching English in Japan. You see, aside from the advantage of very surfable waves Kochi is not exactly known for much else. Considered one of the poorest areas of Japan, he assured me it was (in)famous for the highest rates of alcoholism and wife beating. Nice. In an effort to make the most of my couple of days ...
