... look at a G8 summit), the eco museum in which all the exhibits are made out of cardboard and of course the volcano museum. This is very engaging and is excellent for learning about volcanic activity and features in the local area (very good translation into English too). It also features a simulator of the 1977 eruption of Mt Usu. It last erupted in 2000 and if the volcano sticks to its previous habits, I guess the next eruption is expected between 2020 ...

I tried my hand at ski jumping (143m - not bad!), ice hockey goalie (saved 4/5), figure skating (nearly fell off; very dizzy), speed skating sliding (25 slides which at least beat the person before me), Nordic skiing (I won in a race against a Japanese man) and bob sled (I think it always wins). The eggs here are runny, so I think they are not cooked, but I have been told they have a lot of cream, that's why they are runny. After breakfast, we headed an hour out of Chitose to Edo Wonderland (Noboribetsu Jidai-mura). The place looks like old Japan, it is a mini theme park with shows. ...

... point where we could see the ocean. It was so cold outside. It was funny, that even though it was freezing outside the kids still wanted ice cream. The kids got ice cream and we boarded the bus for our hotel, the Toya Sun Palace. The hotel was right on Lake Toya. When you walk in, there is a huge lobby with full length windows and a beautiful view of the lake. The rooms of the place are ok, it seems pretty dated with really gaudy decor. The hotel has ...
