TripAdvisor recently released their top 10 "clothing-optional" resorts, based on popularity and according to TripAdvisor editors. At first, when you think about these places, it sounds all sexy and intriguing, but then, when you find some actual photos, you change your mind. I'm sure there's great service and everything, but nude resorts sometimes aren't all they're cracked up to be... Nevertheless, enjoy the list.



1. Hidden Treasure: Hidden Beach Resort – Au Naturel Club, Riviera Maya, Mexico – Average Nightly Rate: $541

Nothing is actually hidden at this beautiful Kantenah Bay Riviera Maya resort that makes a clothing-optional vacation a truly luxurious – and liberating – experience. According to one TripAdvisor traveler, “Everyone is just there to relax and enjoy the sun and to unwind. I cannot think of a better place to do all of those things.”



2. Forbidden Fruit: Garden of Eden Resort, Isla Solarte, Panama – Average Nightly Rate: $130

Featuring hot tubs overlooking the water, beautiful beaches and a lively bar and pool, this au naturel resort is a Mexican gem. According to a TripAdvisor traveler, “Overall, it was the most relaxing and romantic week we have ever spent at a resort.”

“For travelers, a great vacation is all about escaping. For most that means escaping the confines of their homes, for others, it is best achieved by escaping the confines of their clothes,” said Michele Perry, vice president of global communications for TripAdvisor.

Ever spent a vacation at a nude resort? What was it like? Enquiring minds want to know.

We have a famous nude beach in Miami called Haulover Park. All the ogglers wander around hoping to catch the lithe models from South Beach they have seen in all the glossy magazines. No such luck! It almost seems that the uglier your body, the more likely you are to frequent a nude beach or resort.

I have always wondered where the waiters and waitresses put their tips in a nude resort.

But seriously though! I've read articles and seen pictures of real nudist people and they're not pretty.

Nude resorts are very strict about whom they allow in; especially concerning single men. So I go to nude places that allow everyone in; such as Wreck Beach in VAncouver & North Baker BEach in San Francisco.

Wow, really? I've never been before, but I think it would be interesting to try, you know, pushing the boundaries for a day or whatever.

"Gatineau Park: Old Mill
Located in Gatineau Park--wich actually lies within Quebec Province--the Old Mill is a popular site. The name conjures up a primitive grinding mill, but don't be fooled. This is an abandoned hydroelectric power station, and 'old' is circa 1914. Oh, well. At least the pond is nice and the surrounding mountains are authentic. As to the nudity, local press said in 1977 that 'Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Gatineau Park rangers usually have an easygoing attitude towards offenders, mainly because the nude bathing is confined to secluded areas.' From Ottawa, drive Route 105 north to the Gatineau Park, locate Mead Lake, park, and walk up the winding trail for a mile to the Old Mill site."

This beach is between Ottawa and Montreal, but is closer to Ottawa (Duhamel, QC). Site is popular with straight and gay nudists.
Directions: From the Montreal area, take Highway 148 west about 100 or so kilometers to Highway 321, which is a few kilometers past Montebello. Turn right on Highway 321 and go north about 40 kilometers toward Duhamel. Park at the public beach in Duhamel. From the beach, walk to the east until you reach Nation Nord River, which flows into the lake. Cross the shallow river to reach the nude area."

No. As I mentioned earlier, they have very tight rules as to who can join, so I never tried. But I have been to nude beaches in Vancouver & San Francisco.

Oh yes, I forgot. Maybe you should try! I'm sure you'd pass the tests.

I read in many sources that it's very hard for a single man to get in. They openly welcome couples & single women but strictly screen out single men. I don't really need to go thru that humiliation. There are plenty of places to go nude open to the general public, wherever I travel.

Well, when you come to Guelph you can check out the Four Seasons in Freelton, just outside of the city.... apparently they are "Canada's premier nudist facility".

I dunno, I'd give 'er a go at the right place and the right time.......why not?

From the voice of experience ...it's not bad at all. Everyone is just looks like everyone else.

One truly good thing id that you cannot tell is who is at what level in society. Based on their clothing...the president of a large company looks the same, as the filing clerk ... in the same company!

So you could be talking to the president of a large multimillion dollar enterprise or a janitor and you would not know ... it's wonderful when you remove those limitations.

It is a bit of a push the first time you go outside but no one cares except you. All the self consciousness you have usually disappears pretty quickly. Even the fear of having some visible male response goes away very quickly and you ... eerrrr ... get the hang of it, pretty fast.

We went as a family and from the very first time we went, we truly enjoyed it. I would not hesitate to go again and you know it's probably time to revisit the place!

I (we) have been naturalists for 23 years. Too bad not longer. Discovered it at age 34 and have never looked back. We were just at Orient Beach 3 weeks ago. Divine, warm sand, turquoise waters, martini's and french pastries how can you go wrong.
We have 2 summer resorts near us in NYS. One we go to for weekends the other for the day on our bikes. AAHHH. We have been to resorts in Mexico, Spain, Massachussetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Beaches in New Jersey, California and on Long Island. We haven't quite decided which resort to go to next winter, but we'll be at one.
It doesn't get any better than being naked in the sun, hiking in the mountains, sitting under a waterfall, and even swinging in my hammock.
Topless is but a tease.

I was just in Tulum at the beginning of April, 2011. Papaya Playa, which was always hostile towards nudity, has taken over Cabanas Copal, which they were renovating. They have put up a fence near the Temezcal. Azulik and anything beyond is thus excluded from "their" beach. I stayed one day at Papaya Playa and no one was naked and I doubt it would be tolerated. Beach nudity in Tulum is a distant memory.
