We are planning to go into Bolivia (via North Chile) in March or so 2008.
We have received mixed versions of the state of Bolivia during our travels in S America - some have given it a miss while others have stated no problems. The newspapers have little on it...
Anyone had any delays or problems (out of the usual Bolivian schedules...)
Anyone taken the train from Antofagasta to Uyuni?
I agree 100% with Rhinosride. Don't miss Bolivia. From what I can see from the railway website (only in Spanish) http://www.fcab.cl/portal.htm
there is passenger service only once a week from Calama to Oruro. With the advent of better roads in South America, there is regrettably very limited passenger service on trains now. The State of Bolivia is always in a bit of a turmoil, so if you wait until things are totally calm, you may never get to see it. In spite of this, Bolivians are hospitable people and the country is unlike any other in South America.
One place to find up-to-date news on Bolivia is the BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/countr...les/1210487.stm
Also BoliviaWeb has lots of information and advice. http://www.boliviaweb.com/
